Here's the one we use. It's quite good and the price is right. We did find it in a bin at Staples, so I'm not sure if they're still around. Worth a check though!

We have a host of garden design and house design software, trouble is it is quite old so might not be as graphical as the new stuff. One is called 3D Garden Designer 3, so you might find a newer version of that.

Oh, and having a digital camera or pictures you can scan will be a big help too.

Auto CAD. It's a bit programming heavy, but you can do ANYTHING in it.

Here's the corner of our back yard at the beginning of June:
Here it is again in September: Here's a view of the side of the yard, next to the garage. I relandscaped the entire yard last spring. I really like the pee(?) stones. The grass would have been a pain. The Maple tree really grew too. We call the tall rock Richard, Dick for short! [ 01-05-2005, 08:31 PM: Message edited by: Variol (Farseer) Elmwood ]

yeah I have a digital photo that I can use for the front yard
What I want to do is level off the front yard into to two big steps using two retaining walls and then cut a series of steps up to the front door. Also getting rid of those trees as well. Hopefully to look something like what I whiped up in paint in 2 minutes. [ 01-05-2005, 08:48 PM: Message edited by: T-D-C ]

Nice, very nice. It looks very modern. And by modern I mean nice. And by nice I mean modern. And by that I mean characteristics or expressions of recent times or the present, usually of a contemporary or up-to-date nature.
