I wouldn't object to them scanning my mail for keywords, but some sites (http://gmail-is-too-creepy.com/) do raise some valid concerns.

They don't look at their keyword list and don't sell it. The only thing they can do with it is give it to the authority if they ask. Any company has to do that.

The way I see it, you're safe as long as you do nothing illegal with your account.

besides the number of illegal things you can do are somewhat limited as it is just a communication medimum, maybe talking about illegal things or something, but they're not going to care about piracy or anything like that.
