Well, this sort of thread does serve a very useful purpose: It puts a touchy subject out for open commentary, allowing people with large mouths and small brains to positively identify themselves by regurgitating the ill-thought-out rhetoric of whichever faction they adhere to, usually embellished with their own personal, though hardly original, brand of would-be sarcasm. This is a social function that was once the province of the dunce cap, a simple system for identifying those who aren't quite up to par with respect to their synaptic activity.
The fact that there is a plethora of issues to be discussed intelligently is usually almost instantly buried in the flow of recriminations, I-told-you-so's, and "You damn liberals/conservatives are all alike".
Most importantly this thread has allowed me to breach the possibility of nuptials with Donut, thereby earning my British citizenship... all's well that ends well, don't you think?

And lest I end my contributions on a silly note, I'll add this little pithy maxim:
Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, great minds discuss ideas. I stand out in this respect, as I discuss wheelybins.
Congratulations on the possibility of your upcoming nuptials but I find your baited post to be a bit harsh to some of the people who have posted here in an honest attempt to discuss issues as opposed to trying to force their own views on others. There are truths to the subjects discussed here and on a global level they actually seem to be pretty important to people who care.

I think the whole idea of this thread was to get people to talk about their own views and compare them with others IW members around the world in order to bring some understanding of each other and what we think to light.

There is more to the IW community than "people with large mouths and small brains" who need a place "to positively identify themselves by regurgitating the ill-thought-out rhetoric of whichever faction they adhere to, usually embellished with their own personal, though hardly original, brand of would-be sarcasm."

Just because there have been some slightly less than kind remarks from one side or the other, posts made not pertaining to the subject at all, and jokes made that you don't get does not take away from the validity of the issue this post was started over nor does it imply that all the posters here simple minded people.

If you need a place to throw out anonymous insults and bait IW members, please start a thread intended for such purposes.

And yes, I took your bait, on behalf of the IW members who posted here with honest feelings just to tell you how wrong you are. Applaud yourself or go discuss wheelybins, it makes no difference to me.

Friends...
I'm absolutely sure a lot of Americans are good people, who would never do things like purposely making little children starve etc. And there can be no doubt either that America has given the world some very good things. The PC, for example. But nevertheless, those in positions of power in America have done more than a few things that have caused considerable sorrow and suffering to the rest of the world in history, and they continue to do so today. It's true. I have mentioned a book in my earlier posts on this thread -- go read it, please, pretty please. (I'm not saying that book's holy writ, but considering the amount of research that must have gone into it, I don't think you can dismiss the whole book as rubbish, either.)

My hope in posting this is that you good people who happen to live in the States will seek to find out what your leaders are actually doing to the rest of the world, and then see what you can do about it as responsible American citizens. (Hey, you believe in democracy, don't you?)

Please.

And as for Islam and Middle-Easterners, what will it take to make people see that not all Muslims are homicidal fanatics? Many of them are genuinely opposed to violence -- and to cutting off the hands of thieves, be it said. Many of them believe in the unity of all religions. And many of them are just pregnant mothers and innocent people who want to support their families and ensure a happy life for them. Do you really want to kill them, too? Do you? Then just how much better than dear Bin Laden himself are you?
