ok, i am desperately trying to upload an image(a portrait from here) to a free account at ranchoweb(thanks for the hint Cerek), but it doesnt upload it. do i have to convert it to be another file type, like jpeg. or something else? if so, how do i do that.

btw, i have a similiar thread in the general discussion board, but im here more often so i thought id post it here too. if thats a problem, i can have it deleted.

Yup, you should convert it to jpeg first ..

sometimes what you can do is simply change the suffix (your .tiff or .gif .mpeg .jpg .pict whatever it is) to the filetype you need. graphics files are pretty universal so it just tells it to read the pixels a different way. If this doesn't work (which is rare), but if it doesn't, you can change this 3 different ways. One, use a graphics converter program. If you do not have this, sometimse a picture viewer has this built in...open it up in whatever graphics opener you have, and select "save as" and change the file type to "jpeg" or whatever you need. If you do not have this option, open up your file, and copy it, and go into microsoft powerpoint, or microsoft word, and paste it there, you can save it as a jpeg from there.

Files that are to be uploded at ranchoweb must be either a .jpg, .gif or .png. You can esily convert them using a normal image-program, lie Paint.

You'll need a converter-program to convert them to jpeg ... there was another filetype o.k. too, but I forgot. So stick to jpeg for now.
Photoshop or acdc -both downloadable for free- spring to mind from of previous posts.

If you're using rancho-web this should be what you type :

( without the space between ".jpg and [/IMG]" offcourse )

ACDSee is shareware. IrfanView is freeware. And better, IMHO.

Hello again, Raistlin!

If you're as "un-savvy" about computers as I am, here is a simple way to convert your file to .jpg. (this is the same thing that everybody has already said, just in a step-by-step format).

If you managed to Save a PrintScreen that you like from Baldur's Gate, just go to the file with that image in it and open.

Microsoft will automatically put it into a graphics program (like Paint).

Next, click on the FILE button on the top Toolbar and choose "Save As..."

Keep the same file name, but look at the box that determines file type. It should be in the lower left corner and will probably say .bmp (for bitmap - since this is the format of your original PrintScreen Image).

Click on the arrow in that box and it will bring up the other possible file extensions/types - one of which will be .jpg.

Click on .jpg.

Click "Save".

You have now Saved a second copy of your image in .jpg format and RanchoWeb will gladly upload it for you.

i cant believe it was that easy. sheesh, i should have known that, i helped one of my friends convert grafic files just last year. what am i gonna do with this memory of mine.
