The Ring 2 is out already? Jees...
Ring 1 was OK, but it wasn't scary at all. Nothing special, hope the sequel is better.

I know a teenage girl who went to see it. She said it was a laugh-fest and not scary whatsoever.
Maybe we've seen enough girls with hair in their faces and TV's killing people to have figured out at least some of the stock Japanese horror movie tricks. |

My father went to see it last night, he said it was less scary than the first one.

I don't know which version of the ring 1 I saw but it only funny. People said it would be scary but it's really not. That kind of keeps me from seeing this movie too.

I'll also vouch for the original version.
The second part of Ringu wasn't quite as good as the first one. What I've heard about the second part of the American version however.. |

It seemed to me that Ringu was a better made film than the Ring--better pacing, more cohesive--but the Ring was better at being creepy.
But I wouldn't say, without qualification, that Japanese horror is better than western. Anybody see the original Ju-On? That film needed a good editor; haven't seen the hollywood version, but I was surprised they were so keen to make it. Haven't seen Ring 2 yet, but probably will at some point. Basically I'm expecting a moderately entertaining film with a few jumps rather than carefully fostered, creepy ambiance.
