I get this a lot in my politics classes . We do have a constitution, it is a common mistake to assume that because it is not of the same form as the American one it does not exist. Our constitution is for the most part written, but it is not codified, and it has been so since the Magna Carta. It comes from:

1. Statue law,
2. Case law,
3. EU law (regulations bypass parliament altogether),
4. Works of authority (Bagehot, Dicey, and the like),
5. Where all else fails - convention and precedent.

And therein lies the root of the problem. There is not a fundamental set of rules and regulations that underpin the system. For example, it is my understanding there are no absolute rights that a U.K. citizen can insist upon against the State. What we have is absolute freedom unless we are forbidden to act by one of the methods of restricting this freedom mentioned above.

This may seem a reasonable state of affairs and indeed, it does lend itself to more rapid and flexible adaptation to changing circumstances. But it also has the major disadvantage that the Executive can further restrict or remove any of the freedoms that the populace enjoy by statute, and the citizens so affected have no recourse to an overarching fundamental constitution should they wish to challenge such a decision.

Agree 100%. There is a strong argument that a constitution is not a constitution unless it is higher law of some kind. I don't follow it myself - a constitution that isn't higher law is possible in my view. It is just extremely flexible which, as you point out, is a good and bad thing. I am with you about the Executive and its increased powers, what I am saying is that we do technically have a constitution. We just might as well not bother at times.

*sigh*............remember, there is a small and insignificant country that perches upon the greatness that calls itself England.

We call it Scotland and quite like it. Especially because capitalising every word as if it were a proper noun is not compulsory here..........

I feel offended that you don't know where I'm from anyway Binky. Isn't my name synonymous with London? The greatest and most soulless of all cities? And yeah, it seems to make sense more to insult the country you come from. People don't seem to take it personally for the most part if you do that.

Is one thing I have learnt and commented on over the years to many people who bitch, complain and moan about things around them

"If you don't like it, quit bitching and do something about it
change "your" life"

For you Barry..leave this crap country you hate so much and go where the grass is greener, you seem genuinely one of those people that dislikes this country so get a grip on your life and move,it really is that simple, many others have done it

Im not patriotic as such, I dont think much of royalty, makes me sick to see them in the newspapers but im sure they are useful for tourisim and public visits to places
but i was born here and despite all the crap things England(cos we seem to hate England not the rest of the UK) has wrong with it and all its problems, Im happy to live here and would never live elsewhere again.

Ive been all over Europe and lived in some countries for differing amounts of time and maybe thats why I have a different outlook, who knows....I could make small minded comments as to why you view things like you do but it wouldnt help so.......

Best of luck with your life and I hope you wise up

Didn't even read this thread. The bloke's a ****, a proper stinking ****. I'm flabberghasted that this forum can even allow **** like this to air their views. Is there anything in the rules and reg's regarding racism? which this post obviously incites. I've copied it all now anyway, including my post which is obviously acceptable when racist hatred is allowed to go unchecked upon these boards.

TOP TEN REASONS TO HATE THE UK.

Yep, hatred (like the author maggot even understands it) and the name of a peoples would suggest to me by its very title that this is a racist thread designed to cause disruption.

Listen Barry the ****, did you honestly expect by writing **** like this that no-one would be offended...did you ****?

Whilst sitting in your London home, in the warmth telling me what a **** place this is when I've had family maimed to give two bob **** like you the airspace to gripe and bitch and whine like the stinking scum you are. What is your input into the U.K? Tell me, what has the U.K gained or gleaned from one such as you. Are we the better peoples because a rancid maggot such as yourself was given a soapbox upon which to stand to spout your filth across the globe? **** off and die ****. Listen to me now ****, I'm bang dead centre of London and I'll happily meet you in any pub car park of your choosing, ANY!! bring your firm ****, you have none, you are lonely, you are friendless and you count for nothing.....absolutely **** all. Did your mum or dad leave you as a baby? Face it, who could blame them. Who's rancid diseased riddled ***** did you dribble off of anyway?
Tell me, did you ever write educational notes for Osama bin Laden? Top Ten Reasons To Hate The USA I think one of them had been reading. Some soppy **** had written it to amuse himself, a few thousand people enjoyed it when their lives were shattered. But of course it's ok...it's somewhere else, I didn't mean it like that.....my hatred is a different kind of hatred.....****.

You are a child educated where? To give you the inteligence for what? Please die ****, commit suicide, you are unwanted, unliked and unloved......useless......now **** off.

Like hatred do you Barry?
Lie to me that you wasn't taken aback or upset by the above.....go on....lie.
I revoke wholeheartedly the above comments but if thou wouldst deal in hatred then understand it in its mildest and safest of forms and witness its ugliness. How dare you even post such a thread? You have intelligence and you were completely aware that some people would be upset.

Now do a thread.... 10 reasons to hate ****....Go on, I dare you, How about 10 reasons to hate the black bastards?
Oh who was the bloke who done the concentration camps btw, the very individual I mean? Was he English? Was he Scottish, Welsh, Afro Carribean, perhaps part of the Raj, all part of the U.K/Commonwealth of course so it's nice to know you would sweep so many nationalities into the abyss on the pretext that some-one somewhere told you that the bastard was/might/could be English, Scottish, Irish, Welsh whatever, sweep em all away........ racism at its finest.

You thought you may get away with it. What was the purpose of this deeply antagonistic thread? Was it to show people your educational prowess? was it that you may inflame someone such as myself and then partake in some kind of psychological joust? What was the purpose. Don't be giving me **** about it's a fun thread because it's anything but, one needs only read your opening gambit to see and realise that this is a highly offensive and potentially volatile thread. For the individual that tried to make light and suggest this thread was a way to let off steam.......bollocks. This thread was designed to upset. IT IS RACIST.

Barry the Sheep, Keep your head down, don't look too far in front, keep your head down and keep looking for the grass that's greener, find it then **** off.......I won't follow.

Ouch, you should remove your swearing and flaming, it's okay to say what you want about different threads, but not like this!
