There have been several times I have tried to post tables on this site (people requesting various tables, etc.), but in each case it removes the spaces between the columns. I looked through the various instructions on this site, and maybe I missed it, but is there any way to put a tab in that will remain once you make the post? Every time I space or tab, it disappears once I post. That's more than a little annoying when you type in a big table, then have it nearly unreadable because it runs everything together. I just mainly want to know in the future in case I have to do so.

Have you tried the HTML equivalents? &tab ; and &nbsp ; ? OR creating an HTML table? Or using the list function in UBB code (see the left side of your post box).

Hmmm... &tab ; isn't correct, but nbsp is.

Anyway, try doing HTML for the exact effect you want.

To be perfectly honest, I know very little (read: nothing) about HTML. It was not that long ago that I figured out some of the UBB stuff. I am not exactly the most computer savvy person around.

Do you have a link to a site that has some basic HTML stuff? That way I can play a little bit and figure out what works and does not work (usually how I learn things best).

Oh, and thanks for the quick response.

Try www.webmonkey.com
you can get about almost any information on web-authoring there
Basic HTML is covered in the "Cheatsheet" including pecial characters.

You can also use UBB code tags to protect formatting. They keep spacing as you type it, so remember to break your own lines. Otherwise well be seeing some wide threads.

But if you want something elegant, youll have to use HTML.

no spaces between lines in code box but columns work

columns columns columns columns columns
1 2 3 4 5
Spaces between lines dont work in the code box and I dunno if this works with a cut and pasted table..... or if it accomplishes what you want to do.... but if anything you now know how to do assci art on IW.

Well the only way to have tabs is to use Java. At least AFAIK. You can then use the 'xmp' tag (didn't work to use it here on IW ). Don't think I have an example to show you though. I'll browse through the Javascripts the hubby has made for me.

Erm... you mean Javascript, or really Java? They are two completely different things actually.

Went back and read through the instructions. It does state that CODE protects formatting, but those of us who are figuring things out see that and think "programming code." Yes, CODE will work in the future. Thanks for the responses!

I have them both on my computer. Lot's of unimportant things taking up space on my slave hdd. 75Mb JavaScript that I never use... And some Java programs as well.

I did find a script that allows text format. But I doubt you can use it here on IW.
