Hello BGII-ers! I'm brand new to this game (and this forum), so I wanted to introduce myself. I've been enjoying RPGs for the last couple of years: Wizardry 8 has been my top fave, but I've been haunted lately by Arx Fatalis, Morrowind, and a few others.

It seemed that every review of games I've enjoyed have compared them to BGII in some way, so finally I broke down last week when I noticed the BGII Collection at my local Wal-Mart for something like $20. ("$20," I thought. "Sure its older, but I can't go wrong at that price, and I'll finally see what all the chattering has been about.") Well, finally my eyes have been opened! What a terrific game. I'm only at the very beginning (just cleared De'Arnise for Nalia in chapter 2), but the reasons for all the love are obvious: a tremendous and engaging story, loads of things to do, fantastic characters/personalities/voices, a real sense of depth both in story and character, and a great balance of role-playing and strategy. What fun! (And best of all: the discovery that Minsc is voiced by the same guy who did "Darkwing Duck." That will be meaningless to most people, but really made my day.) That dated graphics have bothered me not a whit, because for me, graphics are NOT the most important component of the experience. It's all about the GAMEPLAY, baby!

Anyway, having a great time; just wanted to say hello, and thanks for having me.

Welcome to IW

its pretty good isn't it?

i've got wizardry8 and morrowind sat next to my PC waiting for me to finish one or all of my now 3! BGII games that are underway . . . so little time . . .

EDIT: having said that - don't spend too much time here as even though the IW folks are pretty careful you will get spoiled - its too late for me (spluttering cough) but you can save yourself

Ah how I wish I could go back to that time when everything in the game was new! Don't get me wrong it's fun replaying it but it's not quite the same...

Many thanks to all for the warm welcome!

Armen, I really enjoyed Wiz8 for a lot of the same reasons I'm enjoying BGII (intriguing and often-funny storyline; fun character/NPC development and personalities; party-based strategy), so I think you may get a kick out of it. Morrowind is not-to-be-believed gorgeous and the leveling system is clever, but the experience is rather lonely. If you like the yimmer-yammer of your party members, you may not think so much of Morrowind. It's still worth playing through, though; it has a great sense of history and epic scope.

Link, thanks! Wethersfield, CT (where I live) is known for its historic red onion trade. Not so much anymore. But you can still find some mean Red Onion Rings downtown if you know where to look!
