Parents can be so cruel sometimes. The biggest life affecting desicsion they make for their children can be boiled down to two words .... the name. Granted this can be alot of pressure, and there are quite alot of people out there that don't think well under pressure.

BUT, how did Mrs Foreman ever let George Foreman IX (that's right ... 9th!!) come into the world while George Foreman Sr was STILL LIVING?!?! The Foreman's have 9 children - 8 named George! Or why did the Munch's and the Head's ever name their respective sons ..... RICHARD?!?!? I'm not kidding on this one, I knew these two in college. This is some serious therapy that they are setting up. Maybe they like the Johnny Cash song "Man named Sue"?

This topic may sound like a George Carlin bit, but it's not. Real life is waaaaaayyyy more funny than schtick.

So, what other unfortunate names have people run into. Please don't use this for schtick .... I wanna know what people have run into in RL.

G'day cobbers
There is in the land of OZ an entrepreneur named Dick Smith who over the years has made millions and given it away to charity only to start again. Now this man has entered the retail market creating his own brands in a rally against the big overseas corporations. Now one of his ideas was cheese, and when asked what he was going to call it he replied "Dick cheese". much to everyone's laughter. but he did and now it is seen and advertised everywhere and its snigger inducing name is now so common its no longer funny. Next he took on a famous brand of matches called "redheads" and of course they are called Dickhead matches" (this is all true) again everyone sniggered but now it is so common it has lost its funny connotations too.
So maybe that's what happens to people with strange names, have a laugh and they get over it. As Dick smith says I'm proud to be a Dick!

I know this is not quite what you where getting at Nightstalker but I thought it might be intresting.

I knew a kid before he moved named Dick Buyer. I sort of felt sorry for him cause he was made fun of 24/7 I sometimes wondered what his parents were smoking to name their kid that.

There is a retired dentist and business owner in my hometown named Harry Dickey. I worked at a restaurant owned by his son for a couple of years.

Oh, when you add cross language mix ups, well .... you get unfortunate mix ups. But the parents weren't intending/anticipating those. I knew a guy named Won Suk Yoo that got endless tormenting, kids can be so cruel. He probably owns some corporation now.

One of the strangest names, and coolest for that matter, that I've run into is Dweezil Zappa.

I guess my real question is, why would parents, knowing possible unfortunate pairings, put their kids through the potential torture? Everyone gets used to their own name, whether they like it or not, and it's part of your identity, so I'm not realy poking fun at anyone particular. Me, I like part of my name and hate my middle name - got my share of ribbing for it, and it's not what would be considdered off the wall. I'm wondering more about the parents ....

My sons name is Kathen. I think its cool, nobody I know has heard of it. And from the way he is now, I think he will not have a problem with teasing. He is 2.5 and beats up his 5.5 year old brother!
