Just a thought that popped into my mind...
If a few days beforehand scientists find out a huge asteroid will wipe out *any* life on Earth, even if people hide underground, would you even want to know it? Would you want to spend the last few days of your life in fear, regret, goodbye's, panic, useless escape plans, chaos, riots, mourning etc., while if no one would have told you about it, it would have been over before you even realized it had happened?

Ahh yes you are probably correct Grojlach..although if we had been notified earlier..the armys around the world would put together a missile to destroy the asteroid or something

LOL

Frankly I don't care. I live on Mars. Here I have an advanced missile defence system made from melons.

So be nice to me Earthlings!!! All my other friends like Neb, Kaz, Seph, lioness, Reeka and Melanie can take really fast flights to Mars.
And Eternity lives on Jupiter so

This is just a quibble...and I apologize up front for it...but I simply can't resist.

If the asteroid had nearly missed Earth, then it would have hit us.

So, it either nearly hit the Earth or narrowly missed us.

I know, I know...there is an "intelligent donkey" in every group. I guess it was just my turn this time. Sorry.

LOL - he's got you there Saz, I'm just disappointed that I didn't spot it first.

As for inventing a weapon to combat the threat I seem to remember that the US is developing missiles which will be able to take out small to medium sized asteroids, but they will not fire them unless the US is directly threatened.

I'm surprised they don't simply send a small bullet rocket to the asteroid containing all the speeches over the last century of prominent lawyer- and industrialist-politicians at the asteroid. The air-filled rhetoric, quickly and suddenly released, would simply vaporize anything within ten thousand miles.

Cheers,

Actually, it could be if they decided to... Texas is the only state in the US that has written into it's state constitution that they can secede from the Union at any time they want.
