Where can you find out how fast a computer is? I'm at work right now, and am bored beyond belief. Trying to play a game here, but don't know what to set things in the configuration part, need to know the MHZ. Anybody have any clue where I can find this?

Right-click on "My Computer"...the first screen that comes up should tell the CPU type and it's speed.

Thanks for the help Sazarac, but I already tried that. Yes, I can see how much RAM I have, but see nothing in which I can tell what the speed is. No "MHZ" mentioned at all. When you try that on your own Comp Sazerac, what do you get? Just curious.

What type of Chip do you have ie AMD or Pentium etc. That should be able to tell you what ballpark you are in...

My computer at home gives it to me...500 MHz....Hm, what OS are you running? Version, I mean? I've got Win 98 SE at home.
Okaay...let me think... I'm on a crappy NT4 Workstation right now and don't have admin permissions, so there's little I can do to check it. Try doing a reboot and going into the "setup" screen...F1 or DEL while rebooting does that. It should have some indication of CPU speed there. Also, it often shows it during the POST (Power On Self Test) process, right after it checks the RAM. Hope that helps! |

Right above the RAM number should be something that says Pentium 3 or such.
I don't know if that gives you enough info. The other option is to reboot your computer. When the computer goes throught the start up procedure, pay attention to all of those funny numbers and such. Usually one of the first numbers displayed in the boot sequence is the processor speed. ------------------ Most Subtle Official Straightman of the Laughing Hyenas -- Grammarian Brigade. |

OK, when I right click on My Computer, this is what I am seeing:
Windows 98 Authentic AMD AMD-K6 3D Processor 120.0 MB RAM And that is it folks. Of course, this is a work computer, so probably doesn't have many features. ------------------ |
