Genesis

Does anybody else here like (or dislike this band) I just purchased the just released new 3 disc platinum collection to replace all my scratched old vinyl records. Many of the song have been remastered and the collection is bloody amazing. From the pop rock later years through my favourite period of the 'Duke' and 'then there where three' albums to the almost pompous / weird Peter Gabriel early years including the 25 minute 'suppers ready' Magnus opus.

What is your favourite album or song? Do you like any of the band members solo work like Phil Collins? </font>

That would be "Magnum opus", Wellard

And yes, I've heard of Genesis, but other than having listened to their more wide-known songs a couple of times, and the fact that Phil Collins was a band member I'm a total n00b

Genesis is a great group and I've especially enjoyed the solo careers of both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. We went to see a Phil Collins concert this past year which was terrific. I've never seen Genesis or Peter Gabriel in concert but I'm certain that would have been great.

Peter Gabriel often ends up collaberating on cds for groups out of the mainstream (Deep Forest, Afro-Celt Sound System) that I really enjoy! It's always a pleasant surprise to me to find that Gabriel and I seem to share musical taste.

One thing I've enjoyed about their music is their sense of humor/satire right along works that are very profound. I almost always have at least one Genesis or Phil Collins or Peter Gabriel cd on my studio jukebox. Currently the I Can't Dance cd is in the jukebox.

Unlike other music that I have enjoyed over the years, I continue to enjoy much of the music from these fine musicians! I'm not inclined to be sentimental about my musical tastes - i.e. something that I loved back in the 80s is not necessarily going to still be loved today. Genesis, Collins and Gabriel are still current and interesting and worth another listen!

My favorite album is "Wind in Wuthering". I saw them on that tour, when Phil Collins had just joined and Peter Gabriel left. It was an awesome concert, at that time Phil played drums as well as sang and they also had another drummer. Two full drum kits and drummers really added to the performance.

This is also where I experienced the worst date of all times. It was the first time that we had been out. As we were going in she saw a guy she knew. After we sat down she said she had to go to the bathroom. I never saw her again. I still had a great time at the concert.

Now that is a bad date Antryg!
Every time they toured I always missed out on tickets. They seemed to sell out in a day or two

Genesis was already a well establish group by the time I got into them so I'm not as familiar with their earlier work. Might have had something to do with what songs were played on the radio around here, but they never grabbed me. Can't recall when I did finally "discover" them - I think Gabriel had already left the group by that time.
