Hey Gang,

I'm a veteran to the Wizardry series, starting with Wizardry 4. I recently purchased W&W via mail order, and was excited to begin playing through the game. However, the lighting is -so- horrendous, that I can barely make out the text on the menus, much less manuever through the game. I downloaded the 'beta' patch, and added the -light=n (n being a number between 1-16) command line, but it made -no- difference whatsoever, despite the fact that I AM running the game in D3D as it suggests for the new lighting key. Playing the game in Software mode helps a bit, but not much. Maxing out the gamma doesn't seem to do much either. I've got a GeForce 2 with the newest nvidea drivers... Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'd really appreciate the help so I can get a start playing.

- Thanks!

Welcome to the board, Madcap!!

Sorry to hear that you are having lighting problems. We've seen complaints about the game appearing too dark but I don't believe that has ever included the text - just the countryside and dungeons.

As for adding in the -light=n n is a number between 1 and 10 (not 16). If you set it for 16 it may be defaulting to 1 but I'm not sure.
There is a thread which should still be on page 1 on adjusting your lighting.

Have you trying changing the contrast and brightness on your monitor?

Hope we can find you some help soon! It's a fun game!

Madcap,

First off, welcome to the board.

I have the same problem under windoze Me, it can't understand the extention switch for light.

Here's the solution.

1- Right click your cursor on your desktop
2- On the menu, choose "properties"
3- Go to "settings"
4- Go to "Advance"
5- Here's were it might vary - Find the tab which contains "gamma" settings. On my TNT2 (also by NVidia) it's under "color correction".
6- Slide the gamma to the right (1.6 is perfect for the game's dungeon and still dark at night)
7- press OK to accept the settings
8- Load your game and play.

You'll have to repeat this everytime you want to play your game... but atleast you can play.

good luck

You can also adjust the gamma setting within W&W, giving you (I believe) the same benefit as mentioned above, but without the need to tweak your vid card every so often. It made a big difference for me.

Oh, forgot to mention that my game's gamma setting was set to max before I tweaked the card
