I heard this song today..I havent heard it in a while, really evoke emotion in me-

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
Never begins it, never, but once engaged...
Never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me

Love it or leave it, she with the deadly bite
Quick is the blue tongue, forked as lighting strike
Shining with brightness, always on surveillance
The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling on her tail

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that you'll hear evermore...

Don't tread on me

What was really cool is shortly 9/11 my raido station added some quotes from Bush's State of the Union adress. Man I wish I could find an MP3 of that somewhere. It did find it on Kaaza and it seems like I burned it onto a CD, but I have no idea where it went.

BTW- For those of you who dont know, thats Metallicas Dont Tread On Me.

Here is another good song about 9/11 by Alan Jackson. It encompasses all the emotions Americans felt on that day.

Where Were You
(Alan Jackson)

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

The greatest is love
The greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

Thanks for the great responses guys!!!

Night Stalker...CrystalMethod...hmmm...that sounds vaguely familiar. Guess I'll have to check out a couple of record stores and see if they have any of their stuff. I'm *always* on the lookout for new and interesting music.

Grojlach...Never heard of Pavement, but the lyrics sound interesting. Maybe I can find an official site and see if they have anything streaming on it, so I can listen. Erm...just what exactly does it inspire you to do?

IR: I love that song! I haven't heard the radio edit though. I do have copies of several songs that the local radio station re-mixed. They posted them on their website(with the artists permission) for people to download, and I have them all on a cd. I burned several copies for my family to listen to as well. To this day, listening to them chokes me up a little.

Cerek:  Thanks for posting that one. I was going to post it next. That song really touched home with me after 9/11. I remember seeing Alan Jackson, the first time he performed it live(at the CMA's or the Grammy's that year, I cant remember which), and I just couldn't stop myself from bursting into tears. It was a really emotional time, and I imagine that I wasn't the only one who felt that way. Thanks.

One song that I've liked ever since the first time I heard it is called "Confusion", by Pump Panel. It was on the Blade soundtrack. There are some lyrics(posted below), but they are only in the middle of the song and only last about a minute or two. The whole song is over 11 minutes. Despite the fact that there are almost no words, and that the song is pretty repetetive, there's just something about the rythm, and the sound, that always combines to give me a huge charge of adrenaline. I like to turn it on when I'm doing housework(or, I did, until I moved to be with Cloudy. I dont think she'd care for it, since I usually turned it up to about 80% or 90% volume). On a side note, I *HATED* the rest of the Blade soundtrack, except for one other song. It was all music 'inspired by' the movie. When I bought it, I was expecting to hear the score, and instead, all I got was a bunch of crappy rap. Dont get me wrong, I like rap...well, rap performed before about 1992, when it all became 'thug' rap...I hate that garbage! I mean, when did cursing, denegrating women, and talking about graphic violence become 'music'? Erm...sorry...got off on a bit of a there. I guess I'm just old enough to fondly remember Run/DM-C, and GrandMaster Flash, and remember, with fondness, when Rap was about the beats, the lyrics, and a positive message. Anyway...I'm done. Here are the lyrics to 'Confusion'(The Reconstruction Mix). Oh, and for anyone that wonders where it's played in the movie...it's in the 'club' that the vampires have set up in the meat locker.

New Order - Confusion [Pump Panel Reconstrucion Mix]

You just can't believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just can't believe me
When I show you what you cannot see

You're hiding from feelings, searching for more
Sharing and hoping, untouched for so long
Our lives still change from the way that we were
And now I'll tell you something I think you should know
You just can't believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just can't believe me
When I show you what you cannot see

You cause me confusion, you told me you cared
He's calling these changes that last to the end
Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies
The past is your present, the future is mine
You just can't believe me
When I show you what you mean to me
You just can't believe me
When I show you what you cannot see

You tell me you need me, I'll make it this time
The thread won't divide us, the sensation survives
I was sure that I told you it was good from the face
You've caused me some problems, you've taken my place

Why can't you see what you mean to me?

************************************************** *****

Also, in keeping with my theme, here's another song(yes, another one regarding 9/11 and American patriotism So sue me, I like them).

It's by Aaron Tippin. It's called :Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle flies, and you can hear a stream of it HERE

************************************************** ****
Well if you ask me where I come from
Here's what I tell everyone
I was born by God's dear grace
In an extra-ordinary place
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle flies...

It's a big old land with countless dreams.
Happiness ain't out of reach
Hard work pays off the way it should
Yea, I've seen enough to know that we got it good

Where the stars and stripes and the eagle flies...
There's a lady that stands
in a harbor for what we believe
And there's a bell that still echoes
the price that it cost to be free

I pledge allegiance to the flag
And if that bothers you, well that's too bad
But if you've got pride, and you're pride to do
Hey, we can use more like me and you

Where the stars and stripes and the eagle flies...
Yes, There's a lady that stands
in a harbor for what we believe
And there's a bell that still echoes
the price that it cost to be free

No, it ain't the only place on earth
It's the only place that I prefer
To love my wife and raise my kids
(Hey) The same way my daddy did

Where the stars and stripes and the eagle flies...
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle flies...

That particular song was also brilliantly parodied in Southpark a while ago... Though I suspect you won't agree with me on that.

Mostly? Sing along, relax and enjoy. Nothing like some Pavement when you're feeling a bit down. Or did I miss the purpose of this topic? Were we supposed to post politically slanted music, then?

ROFL!!! No, of course not. Just whatever inspires you. Music you like. I posted the first song because it moved me, and, in all honestly, I didn't think that it would turn into a political flame fest. I feel rather bad about that. I guess I was being a bit naive in thinking that it wouldn't start up with the bashing, but I just wanted to talk about inspiring music.

I will definitely check out Pavement though. I love all kinds of music. I have *VERY* eclectic tastes. *Roots through CD case*..Hmmm...lets see...Clannad...Enya...Hackers: The Movie soundtrack...Garth Brooks...Alan Jackson...Celtic Moods...Classical Thunder CD's 1 and 3. Yep...Pretty ecletcic.

Excellent thread, Nachtrafe. I will be looking for the that song from Blade on KaZaa tonight....that DID have an awesome rythm and beat.

I was going to continue in the vein of political songs, but decided not to. The next song I was going to list is Courtesy of the Red, White, & Blue by Toby Keith - but that would almost definitely hijack the thread again (due to the second set of lyrics). If anybody wants to know what those lyrics are...I'll post them in this thread on the War Forum.

Now then...to the topic of inspirational songs. One comes to mind off the top of my head. I listen to 104.7 The Fish out of Atlanta here at work. It's a Christian station and some of the songs they play are just absolutely fabulous. After careful consideration...here are the lyrics to one of my favorites.

I Can Only Imagine
by Bart Millard

from "Almost There"

I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk by Your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When Your face is before me
I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus, or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in Your presence, or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine

I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine

ROFL!!! Yep, that song would DEFINITELY have hijacked the thread again.

Hmmmm...that's a pretty song Cerek. I'm not a Christian myself(as most of you already know), but I can still appreciate good music. Thanks for the lyrics.

Have fun guys. I probably wont get the chance to post over the weekend, but Cloudy and I will keep an eye on the thread. Maybe I can wheedle her into letting me on her puter(it's the only one in the house with a Net connection) for awhile, and I'll post something. There are SOOOOOO many songs that I enjoy, I couldn't begin to post em *ALL*.

Later
Nacht

Here are the lyrics to a second song I enjoy very much. In fact, I like it so much, you will notice the final lyrics are in my current sig.

Can't Keep a Good Man Down
by Eddie Carswell/Leonard Ahlstrom/Russ Lee
from Arise, My Love - The Very Best of NewSong

He said goodbye to the angels of heaven
And He came to earth as a common man
He taught us how we could love one another
There was healing in His hands
There were those who believed and followed Him
And there were those who wanted Him dead
They thought the grave would silence Him forever
But they found out instead

You can close your eyes
You can say it's a lie
You can stick your head in the sand
You can turn away, even try to explain
He was just another man
When they nailed Him to the cross by His hands and feet
and the put Him in the ground
Three days later everybody found out that you can't
No you can't keep a good man down

I hear you say that it all sounds easy
It's a good story but it can't be true
How could a man who was dead and buried
Mean a thing to me and you
Here we are two thousand years later
and still the choice is just the same
You can say that you don't believe it
But it doesn't change a thing

You can close your eyes
You can say it's a lie
You can stick your head in the sand
You can turn away, even try to explain
He was just another man
When they nailed Him to the cross by His hands and feet
and the put Him in the ground
Three days later everybody found out that you can't
No you can't keep a good man down

I can take you to the hill where they hung Him on a cross
I can take you to the empty tomb
I can tell you He's alive 'cause He lives in me
But the rest is up to you

You can close your eyes
You can say it's a lie
You can stick your head in the sand
You can turn away, even try to explain
He was just another man
When they nailed Him to the cross by His hands and feet
and the put Him in the ground
Three days later everybody found out that you can't
No you can't keep a good man down

Hey Nacht, I heard that song by Aaron Tippin shortly after Sept 11th and never new who sung it, or what it was called. Thanks for posting!

Great thread everyone!

Hey, wasnt there a thread similar to this started by Slackerboy right after 9/11 ?
