No doubt in my mind - it's Jan, Jan, the Turnip Man!!

Not only can this weak, mouthy little gnome make his own ammunition, but it is the best in the game - it stuns the baddies, letting my fighters hack them to pieces. And he has literally made me rich with his pickpocketing (which almost never fails) - after I paid my 20k GP at the end of Chapter 2, I still had around 150k (and haven't found anything to spend it on yet). He is flawless in detecting traps and picking locks, too - never failed once for me. Sure, he's weak, but he's not a melee fighter anyway, and there are various items that can remedy his weaknesses.

Also, by the end of Chapter 2, he had gained enough lore to identify items.

On top of this, he's a mage!!!

The only serious weakness that I can think of is that he has only one attack per round.....

Great personality, and I kinda enjoy his stories.....

No better teammate in the game, IMHO.

He can make his own ammo! How?
Anyway i used him only once but he was a bit too anoying.
I think Aerie is very usefull, give her the robe of Vecna and she heals anyone in an instance.

Three times a day (I think?), he can create a batch of "BruiserMates" crossbow ammo (5 to a batch, I think). Just click on his portrait, then press F12, then press the appropriate icon. He does a cleric-like incantation, and when he's done, they are in his inventory. You can then move them to his quiver. These babies are awesome - they stun an enemy, allowing your melee fighters to safely hack them to pieces!!!

I think that Haer'Dalis is one of the greatest NPC's in this game.
It might not be the best but he is a decent character.

100% Pickpocketing is very good, although Jan Jansen has better pickpocketing.
He can also play this simple level 1 battle melody.
He is extremely lethal with his two +2 Short Swords in start, and he has a very decent -1 AC because of 17 Dexterity and +3 Bardic Splint mail where you can find from that other plane, where you must rescue Haer'Dalis in first place etc.
Then Haer'Dalis can cast some spells too, which makes him even more useful.
This +3 Splint Mail won't even neutralize his spell casting, so I really think from bottom of my heart that he is very interesting and useful additition to your party.

Jan or Aerie...

Jan can only create the bruisers one a day I belive. Haer'Dalis is a bard and, i know i'm genralising here, is therefore rubbish.

Korgan is without doubt the most useful NPC. He is carrying a little under half of my parties workload, in terms of kills at least.

In terms of "most useful"- I'd have to go with Jan. His excellent thieving skills, coupled with his spell casting ability fill two holes within the group make up.
