I haven't read too many of these, obviously the Stand by Stephen King when I was still at school, which I thought was pretty damn good (I was only 15 though) and I've also read Wrath of God by Robert Gleason which got some rave reviews but I thought was pretty average, but in the last couple of weeks I've had the chance to read Swan Song by Robert McCammon which blew me away. It was written in 1987 and the premise is a bit dated but the book itself is awesome - not many books that will have you reading up at 4:30 am when you have to get up at 7:30. Definitely worth checking out for anyone who's into the genre, or even anyone who just wants a good read. Very gritty, very brutally realistic, animalistic even, but also very beautiful and touching.
Anyway, wanted to hear if there were any good books of this post-holocaust/end of the world genre that you'd like to share with us - I'd love to start getting more into it. |

Post apocalypse fiction:
“The Poastman” by David Brin (no NOT watch the movie) “The Fifith Sacred Thing” by Starhawk” I almost finished “The Stand” I had the massive unabridged version and I was about 90 pages from the end when I realized I didn’t care. I didn’t care about any of the characters, I didn’t care about how it would all end I just couldn’t force myself to finish reading it. Fifteen years later I have yet to pick up that book and read the last 90 days.

Not to sure if this counts but you might want to try,
A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller JR Dr. BloodMoney by Philip K Dick What is it that attracts you to this genre, as i may be able to suggest other books with similar themes.

Hey, M, always love your threads on books. I personally loved Robert McCammon's "Boy's Life." It is an excellent read with a mix of mystery, horror and fantasy. Its not apocalyptic per se and yet it does carry throughout a sense of apocalypse. It is hard to explain but if you read it you'll see what I mean. Once I picked it up I couldn't put it down. I will definitly look for his Swan Song.
