Can anybody tell me how to get the elevator in the 4th elevator room to go. I pulled the lever on the wall across but it still doesn't work. I have the book and according to it that should be the 1st elevator you enter after entering that room, but I can't get the darn thing to go.

Welcome to the board,deano!!!!
The switch activates the elevator in the second , 4-way room. From the start of the puzzle...In the first room, use the 'North' elevator.Follow the passage to the next elevator. In the next 4-way, the 'West'. Next 4-way, 'East'. throw the lever and leave going 'East'. next 4-way, North'. and last 4-way 'North'. That should get you to the serpent master.
