Adaptic 4 has caused me more headakes than a bottle of Advil could cure (big one to boot). I still use and will untill it will no longer work, Adaptic 3.5c. It's realiable, it works, and well....It's pretty much free. One would imagen that Adaptic 4 would be just an updated version of 3.5c, but you would be incorrect. It's a peace of very expensive IMO.

Coarse this is a work machine so your prolly stuck with it that way. Try burning another one, on a differant CDRW(verbatem work 99% of the time). Get your hands on a zip drive if you can too. 100/250meg is small but it will move most files, and better yet. It treats it like a Hard Drive, so no burning nessarry.

Why no internet at home?

Reeka,
Your problem may be simpler than you think. Do you have your computer set to show all files? I ask because there are a few files on the CD that are hidden, and Adaptec will not find and copy them unless you have "Show all files" checked. Here's hoping it's that easy. Nothing worse than bangin your head on one of those "dead ends".

Hi Reeka,

Sorry to confuse you before, but I have actually had this problem. O.k. I'll try to explain again, but I'll explain it like this, the foreign languages are the "encodings". Imagine this scenario, (not trying to be patronizing) : Adaptec writes to CD in one way, lets assume it write in French but your CD player at home only reads English, so it won't be able to read it. (there are actually to methods of storing data on CDs, and Adaptec uses one - Joliet IIRC, and the one writer use one called ISO-insert numbers here).

The way round this is to force the CD to conform to a standard which both reader and writer accept. This normally happens when a CD is burnt and "the session closed." By this I mean a CD can hold 650 Mb of Data, hence if you write only 10mb to it, its wasteful. To prevent this most burning software allows you to hold the session open, thereby allowing you to add 10mb now, and at a later stage adding more stuff. When the CD fills up you wont want to add anymore so you close the Session. Somewhere on adaptec you should be able to specify not to be able to add more later, and thus force the CD to be readable anywhere. I have adaptec at home, although I don't use it, but I will check tonight to tell you what steps you need to take.

Kellin da Mage:

I don't have internet at home because I am a hypocrite. I know that my husband would stay on the net all day rather than getting his housework done (of course, I stay on the internet all day at work and don't get my work done). Actually, my husband agrees that it would be too much of a temptation).
