If I dual a thief to a fighter can I still reach GM? I know the reverse is true.

Im not sure but i think you cant I think that weapon proficiencies will be as if you were a multi class (** maximum).

it;'s kinda tricky. The DESIGNERS at interplay say that if you dual a fighter thf into a fighter after the thief reaches 9th level, you get no cool fighter hitpoint bonuses. if you do it before 9, you get some bonuses, but the bonus for super high con seems to be stuck at +2hp per con (bummer man)..
otherwise, proficiencies work normally; except. if you are proficient as a thief in a weapon, then change to fighter and choose that weapon again; when you reach one level higher, you still only have one slot in that weapon. the trick is to choose crappy theif weapons and then specialize as a fighter in new weapons so when you finally reach dual class, you have a ton of options. THEN, you can start stacking fighter slots on tyhe ones previously spent by the thief.

oh, and there is not slot maximum, you can master your weapon of choice when you become the fighter
