No matter what negative things people say about FOX. It has a place for my mind to be. It has "Friends" everyday 7pm to 8pm

... and a place to watch The Simpsons while Bush airs his State of the Union Address.

I get Fox News on Digital over here and watch it occasionally just so that I have something to be indignant about.

The thing is that over here there is a convention that televised newscasts are completely impartial and therefore only state facts. Judgement is left for more openly flagged "magazine" type shows, like Panorama or Brass Eye ( ). That convention, to my knowledge, doesn't operate in the US. As a result its just hilarious to see the kind of things that Fox considers "news".

Over here an analysis of why Dean did badly in the primaries would not be considered news as it has a political judgement inherent to it. Reporting the fact that he did badly is news, commenting on why is not. You'd be amazed how much of a difference that makes to the tone of the broadcast.

There is a difference between Fox and Fox News, isn't there? I do not get anything but local channels so I'm not sure. I do believe they are 2 separate stations.

LOL! Comrade Sprout! Statements of yours like this just make me smile!

I love your sig too!

As Mark said, FOX is different from FOX News, as different from the BBC and Monty Python.

Anyway, cheers mate!

Ah, I had no idea they were different stations - I kind of assumed they were just the same company but different channels. Either way, the news channel is fun. Its quite common for one of my housemates to come home and find me in the living room shouting at the television and gesticulating wildly with the remote control. Try it... its a lot more soothing than you might think...

I have a socialist friend who claims he used to read the Daily Mail once a week to keep himself motivated. After a while he realised that life was too short I think.

And yes, I quite like the sig quote myself. Mark Thomas is kind of our equivalent of Michael Moore, but in my opinion more politically astute and less good at making films.

I think Fox is possibly the trashiest channel out there. For a network touting such morally based shows on Fox News Channel like The O'Rielly factor ect I think the Entertainment channel is full of crap.

Its a freaking split personality, Fox News is a slightly right wing news channel that features such noble notions as "fair and balanced" (I don't think journalists from any channel know what that means.) but then you turn to Fox entertainment and all you get is basically smut. Now don't take me for a puritan but really, how many reality shows do we need? They just get stupider and stupdider feeding off of base human emotions and breeding nothing but contempt for the contestants. Or american idol where people basically laugh at people getting their feelings hurt by assholes. I don't care whether they can't sing or not but you don't need to say: You know I think your the worst singer I've ever heard, worse than my dog listening to country, you just plain suck and have no talent whatsoever nor do I need to hear Paris Hilton saying: I'd have sex with him. with an underage teen on a television show for everyone to see.

ROFLOLWP - I needed a good laugh like that.

I would have said the reverse as it turns out Azimaith. Fox News is a far right idealogue that wouldn't know news if it bit it. Barry's first comments about bias and it basically being a political commentary rather than it being news were right on the money.

Mind you - they tailor their message ideally for their target punters, so they aren't altogether silly.

I'm actually being serious when I say this - do they really consider themselves fair and balanced? I'm not joking, they can't actually think that the stuff they say is impartial can they? Watching earlier today they had a full five minute rant about why Howard Dean was unfit to be president - literally. Thats not fair and balanced, and I'd be amazed to see someone defned it as such.

Honestly... if they do that kind of stuff they've got to admit they're biased haven't they?

I find it hard to believe Barry, but the basic answer is "Yes they do".

I remember watching something in a missing person case. The husband had just been taken in for questioning. We would see that reported as soemthing like mother and son still missing, husband helping with enquiries, and something about suspicious circumstances. What I saw on FOX News was a "he did it" rant fully inclusive of a dramatic re-enactment of how they believed that the wife and son MIGHT have come to grief. It was full of interviews from grieving relatives and all the wording was "We at FOX News conjecture....." and "This leads us to suspect ....". They basically had the husband all wired up to the chair without any bodies and with a case full of conjecture.

News it just ain't. FOX tends to want to be the news and decide the news rather than to simply report the news.

I only watch FOX for "Friends" rerun and if I need a place to be when the other major broadcast stations are airing stuff like Bush's State of the Union Address. Boring. I don't like the other shows on FOX such as those so-called reality TV. Pfft. That's not reality. All those people just want attention and money. They should call shows like those "How to be Greedy and Inconsiderate of Others".
