Seriously, I don't get it. I tell someone I'm going to Starbucks and every once and awhile they sniff and say, "Starbucks? I can't believe you pay that much for coffee!"
Now, first of all, I realize that their coffee isn't cheap, but you know what, It's not like I go there everyday. Maybe once every week or every two weeks. And secondly, their coffee is good. I'm not talking about the black (ew ) but their White Chocolate Mochas, Tazo Chais (which is tea!!), and that delicious new Toffee nut latte...so cmon, why do some of you have this dislike towards Starbucks?

Because their expensive thermus that are not supposed to leak end up leaking on people when they are having AIM conversations...
Sound familiar LB? On the serious side I have no idea, no starbucks over here. |

Plus with my thermus I get 10 cents off their drinks. If I buy 200 starbucks drinks, it'll pay itself off, lol. [ 02-08-2003, 01:30 AM: Message edited by: Lady Blue03 ]

In a sense Starbucks is the MacDonalds of coffee shops. That's probably why it's frowned upon by some. The ambience in quirky smaller single store places is usually a lot better. But I agree with you. The various flavours are quite nice. I've met friends for a Starbucks coffee and I've met friends in unique stores. All part of the gamut of coffee experiences one can partake in. Definitely not something you should be ashamed of. |

I think some people look down on places like Starbucks because they assume that the working class sets the standard for how ordinary people live their lives. People who fall under this category buy their coffee at Shaw's and drink it at home; they don't walk into some elitist joint and fork out three or four dollars for a single cup. I know a lot of people think along these lines, albeit subconsciously. I don't go into places like MacDonald's or Starbucks very often at all; once or twice a month, if that. It just feels so decadent grabbing a Big Mac three nights in a row

it's one of the signs of rampant consumerism and globalization(if theres a g-7 meeting the local starbucks has to hide) me personally i'm indifferent. I don't like coffee. the only coffee shop i've ever been in on my own accord is this local one a little off campus. I got a smoothy

I'd say it's for the same reason some people don't like Microsoft, or any other big things like that.
