Here's a review of a number of games I've played in the last 6 months:
CRPG - Morrowind - for all the previously mentioned reasons it's a must have for RPG guys Neverwinter Nights - boring, played for a few days and lost interest, doesn't pull you in like BG2 does. RTS - Warcraft III was fun, but I lost interest fairly quickly Hegemonia - GREAT Sci-Fi RTS game, incredible graphics and intense gameplay. Empire Earth - Interesting game, not what I expected (I was looking for more of a Civ III type game, and it's not like that at all... it's really the next installment of the Age of Empires game) Racing - NFS Hot Pursuit 2 is a fun game but entirely too easy. Microsoft Rallisport Challenge is an INCREDIBLE racing game, and it's definitely NOT easy. Only downside is a menu interface that's the worst I've seen in YEARS. (game was designed for the XBox... if all Menu systems for the XBox are this bad I'm glad I never bought one) FPS - Mafia - really a Racing/FPS hybrid, very good at both aspects... tons of fun and a great story to boot. Unreal Tourney 2003 - boring, I'm totally burnt out on FPS games though so I'm not a good judge of them anymore. Doom III - the released demo looks like it might get me back INTO fps games. If you like stealth type games like Thief and Hitman try Splinter Cell. Its pretty good, but kind of hard
Personally I prefer RPG's and Strategy games (not RTS) [ 12-31-2002, 11:48 AM: Message edited by: MagiK ] |

Splinter Cell is outstanding .... RTS and RPGs have been covered thoroughly - for good FPS (I usually don't like FPS) go with Halo or Max Paine.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Arx? I know that it is a pretty short game, but if you play it without a game guide (aka walkthrough), then you'll spend weeks on this game. The environment is awesome, the playability rocks (the replayability is questionable), and the interaction is amazing. I'd say it is more of a Morrowind with a little more open-ended play. You can try the demo if you'd like.

STOP RIGHT HERE I've played every game you see above and morrowind is the tops untill I started ARX FATALIS on christmas day this game is FANTASTIC I can't believe what a great game this is It has the GRAPHICS and the GAME PLAY much like Thief and you really have to think to play this game not just run from place to place. The bad guys are very powerful and in order to beat them you have to out think them you can wait until your more powerful to fight them but by then the people your tring to save are dead so you have to use your head and plan your actions and sneek in and out of places to complete your quests.and as your power increases you tasks get harder and harder so Buy ARX FATALIS you'll be glad you did.

The game I've enjoyed most in the past 6 months has been Neverwinter Nights.
The games I got for Christmas are all fun. Those games include Medal of Honor Allied Assault (plus the expansion), Ice Wind Dale II, Delta Force Task Force Dagger, and Return to Castle Wolfenstein. If you want a cheapo, check out Serious Sam in the discount bin, too.
