Is it possible for clerics to use the spell cause harm on Dragons? Ive tried about ten times with both level 14 clerics in my party and all to no avail. Even with two spell resistance and a mallison have been applied to the "Hot/lizard temple area Dragon before trying.

your willpower is probably not high enough, or the dragon is resisting your spells. i found that physical damage spells would work, but you couldnt do any charms or otherwise on the ice dragons.

I'm yet to encounter any dragons in Icewind Dale II yet other than the very poorly used White Dragons, so I could not say for sure if its possible or impossible to effect them with Harm.

I'm guessing though that it should largely depend on the magic resistance of the mighty leviathan in question. Using spells like Lower Reistance, Greator Malison first however may help your cause...

Although, the tactic going toe to err, claw with a dragon with my cleric isn't something which will be high on my priority list when I get to where
you are!
I'll probably go for the more traditional chop-lizard method.

what are you talking about...? my cleric/druid was INTEGRAL in the destruction of BOTH snow dragons. used her to cast web and then entangle, then summoned a bunch of monsters and beasts (lvl 4) to do the fighting, while my wizard fireballed and aganazzar's scorchered it to death.

My clerics have wisdoms of 21 and 23 respectivley. and even after malisons, bane and lower resistance (x2) they still did no harm (ha!). In fact bane was the only cleric spell that worked against this (black) dragon. Why is this? My wizards magic missiles and most other spells worked? (and I tried this several times just to find out what, if any, cleric spells worked!

Thoughts?

@Promethius9594

RE-read my post a bit more carefully.
I basically said that I wasn't intending on using MY cleric in melee against a dragon if I can help it. What I said had nothing to do with spell tactics or whether or not your cleric/druid was integral in winning. Good luck to your cleric/druid and the tactics you use!
Its a personal choice in how we do these things, of course.

@Wellard.
Does bane always seem to work for you against dragons? If so, I'll jot that one down for future reference! If not, well, maybe then its just a case of the dragon making its saving throws against everything else more often than it seems to against bane. Once I get to these lizardly battles in question, I'll let you know how I go.
Hey, did you try buffing your cleric up to the max and trying any blade-barrier type spells that do damage when in melee?

MMM not sure if it worked all the time but it sure worked now and again at least. I had a buffed up ranger and barbarian chopping him, bard playing the song of no fear a wizard throwing acid / fire and all sorts. The two clerics where just busy casting heal summons and trying with no success in between times to cause any harm on the dragon at all.

Circle of bones? ... me no try! I dont like that spell much because IIRC you can not move while it is in operation.

um, wellard, i thought that charisma, not intelligence, was the deciding factor in the strength of a cleric's spells. somebody correct me if i'm wrong.
