I have looked around everywhere( manual, faqs, etc.) and still can't find the answer to my question, what are gems for? Besides some quests you use em in, is there any other use for them? If not I'll just sell em.

Some gems like fire agate gems do have a purporse. But usually after finding them you do not get a chance to sell them before there purporse is clear.
Other black isle games like BG2 have more use for certain gems. As a rule of thumb in IWDII.... sell them

Keep an eye out for particular gems called "Ioun Stones", those ones you may want to keep or at least investigate the qualities of. [img]smile.gif[/img]
There's also a very nice stone/gem that you get reasonably early in the game which has a neat usage...one of my party members is still using it and I'm knee deep in chapter 5. But yeah, generally its safe enough to sell them. There's even a few gem bags available too so your party members can carry more. [img]smile.gif[/img] Greed is good in Icewind Dale II

Gibberish and dret, these are the lines for those that do not wish to be spoiled. The text goes as follows in the next sentence. I know of a Blue with a +2 wisdom found in the Underdark, and I also think there's an intellect raising stone somewhere later. And I think Cerebro is talking about a Periapt of Wound Closure.
