How old were you when you started school?

Howdy folks.
I'm writing an essay for university on the effects of the transition to primary (elementary) school on a child in New Zealand society. Now, I would like to make comparisons of the NZ education system with the systems in place in other countries. What better way to get this information than by asking the many and varied members of Ironworks?
In NZ we start school at age 5 (or thereabouts). I'm interested in the starting ages of school in your own countries/states. So, when did you start your school (if you did at all

)? Was your starting age 'normal' for your society? Why do you think the norms in your community are what they are? Is school attendance legally enforced where you live? Why?

I started school at five, but the required age here in NZ is six, as I'm sure you know already. Sorry I can't be a bigger help [img]tongue.gif[/img]

I started preschool when I was 4. It was fun. Lots of fun things like learning the ABCs and naptime

I started at 4, but that was cos my birthday is before march. Normal age over here is 5.

i started when i was a whole 5 y/o [img]smile.gif[/img] um have u tried looking up the ministry of educations website? cuz it should have a whol lotta info on it n stuf that could b useful, hope it helps [img]smile.gif[/img]

I think I was 5 or 6 when I started Primary School. (Sydney)
