Jeeeha!

Got my new Geforce5200 (the cheap version but who cares for 200fps in Quake4)
and now I can finally see colors again and in more than 640*480 without grey stripes and .... yipiii!
God, this is my best day since long.
Tomorrow a WinXP reinstall is to follow (I'm actually optimistic) and then everything should be alright.

Actualy, any Geforce4 other than an MX series is still futuretech as far as the majority of games is concerned. Going to be another year before anything starts to push it to its limits, and a fair while after that till you start to have problems with it. Of course, to hear ATI and Nvidia talk, its obsolete and you *must* by the absolute latest card *now* or you wont be able to play DooM anymore!

Dont believe it.

Exactly how did you manage to grenade a 4200Ti?

I'm guessing you should've listen to the people who told you the clock speed wouldn't go that high.

NO overclocking involved - I don't do that kind of stuff.

It was an ASUS V8420 whose fan was not that good quality and thus broke down some months after purchase.
So I went out and bought an Evercool VGA fan as a substitute which worked fine for some moths until it decided to go on strike. I did not notice it at first as my Windows is rather unstable (planning on a reinstall) and I attributed the problems to that. Also I had no diagnosis prog for the substitue fan.
When I found out that I was working the card WITHOUT cooling it was already too late.
I thank god the 5200 has a passive cooler. Won't have these troubles again.
