Here are the "milestones" of my education path:

Age 5 - Kindergarten

Age 6 - Pre-primary

Age 7 - Primary 1

Age 9 - Primary 3 / Streaming [Are you a Normal/Extended student? Extended referred to a slower pace for students to cope]

Age 12 - Primary 6 / PSLE Exams [Which secondary school do you go to? Some offer gifted programmes, others were Special Assistance Schools offering mother tongues as first languages or music as electives (students were considered in the Special stream), yet others had the Normal stream for students needing more time or Express stream for the average student)

Age 13 - Secondary 1 [Transition from studying 4 subjects to 8]

Age 14 - Secondary 2 / Streaming [Which subjects will you take for GCE 'O' Level? Your results will limit your choices]

Age 16 - Secondary 4 / GCE 'O' Level [Which Junior College, polytechnic or institute of higher learning do you go to?]

Age 17 - Junior College 1 / Streaming [How many 'A' level subjects will you take? Do too badly, and your Principal might just ask you to consider taking fewer subjects to focus on them]

Age 18 - Junior College 2 / GCE 'A' Level [Which University do you go to?]

Age 19 - Flew to UK for my overseas education. Graduated 3 years later.
