I know Wyvern posted this on the old board a while back, but there seems to have been enough "oopses" going on lately that it's probably worth revisiting.

I forget Wyvern's actual strategy, although it was excellent, so I'll give mine and exhort all players here the same way that I do my students...

SAVE!

Save often!

Save in different slots!

SAVE SAVE SAVE!!

Save before you enter an area you've not been in before.

Save before you do something that you could possibly regret...

Save after a major encounter!

Save before a major encounter (if you know one's coming up, like the Naga or the Mantraps)!

Keep about 3 slots running on saves. Use the first one for the last time you left a town. Use the second one for right before you entered a dungeon. Use the third one while in the current dungeon or overland area. This will guarantee that you can revert to a prior saved game should something go wrong. Also, name your save slots something meaningful so you don't accidentally save over an important one. Notice that the last place you saved is the one that's highlighted automatically when you go to save again.

If you've gone for about 10-15 minutes without saving, SAVE!! At worst, you'll lose only 10-15 minutes of game play in the worst case.

If you can't remember the last time you saved your game, SAVE!

"I saved my game...did I tell you?" --Rethpian

Hope this helps, guys.

Always a good idea to bring up this subject when there are a lot of new players on the board.
Surprises me how many do not keep enough saves, or alternate saves and wind up in trouble as a result.

SAVE SAVE AND SAVE again!
