My All-Drow Party
I have just finished my all drow party, (which I was going to do anyway, even b4 I read about Jack of speed's). I have created this from a totally role-playing point of view, so I um... well... edited my guys. I consider this ok, as it is all in the name of role-playing. However I didn't give them any extra ability points or anything, I just overcame the cap that stops you putting more than 20 ability points on a single ability at first level... and only on one guy... Oh yeah, and I made them all level 30 I have... Marl On'Mara - Male - Rogue 15/Sorceror 15 - Chaotic Good Weilds two short swords, or a throwing dagger (Imported and upgraded from my original game - my favourite character) Strength: 10 Dexterity: 18 Constitution: 10 Intelligence: 16 Wisdom: 14 Charisma: 19 Selleth On'Mara - Female - Cleric 30 - Neutral Good Wields two bastard swords Strength: 18 Dexterity: 16 (+2 bonus from somewhere - I don't know where) Constitution: 18 Intelligence: 10 Wisdom: 19 Charisma: 6 Jarith On'Mara - Female - Barbarian 30 - Chaotic Neutral Wields a great sword Strength: 28 (+4 bonus from 'Bile of the Damned' necklace) Dexterity: 10 (+2 bonus from somewhere - I don't know where) Constitution: 28 Intelligence: 7 Wisdom: 10 (+4 bonus from 'Bile of the Damned' necklace) Charisma: 6 Tigov On'Mara - Male - Fighter 30 - True Neutral Wields two scimitars Strength: 18 Dexterity: 18 (+4 bonus from 'Heart of the Snow Leopard Charm necklace) Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 14 Wisdom: 12 Charisma: 9 Vasihas On'Mara - Male - Fighter 30 - Neutral Good Wields two longswords Strength: 20 Dexterity: 20 (+4 bonus from 'Heart of the Snow Leopard Charm necklace) Constitution: 20 Intelligence: 5 Wisdom: 10 Charisma: 12 Beryin On'Mara - Male - Sorceror 30 - Chaotic Good Wields two daggers (but mostly spells) Strength: 10 Dexterity: 18 Constitution: 16 Intelligence: 12 Wisdom: 14 Charisma: 19 Biographies: Marl As a young drow, the youngest in his house, Marl took part in a surface raid in a surface raid on the drow’s sworn enemies, the moon elves. He was separated from the raiding party, however, as the elves were surprisingly well-prepared for once. As such, Marl was forced to spend time on the surface. He was taken in by an old man, living in a hut in the forest. When he stopped Marl at the roadside, Marl’s first instinct was to kill the impertinent fool, but something stayed his hand. The old man took him in and gave him food and shelter. Over the next few years, Marl’s “drow manners” were slowly worn down, and he no longer thirsted for ruthless slaughter. During the next century, the old man took him all across Faerun, to give him training in the ways of the sorcerer. This training supplemented his rogue training as a student in the drow academy. Marl realised one day that he had been living with the man for nigh on one hundred and sixteen years, and he still did not know his mentor’s name. When he thought about it further, he realised that the old man had changed since the day that they had met. When he questioned the old man about it, he revealed himself as the god Justaed. Justaed gave the man his mission, to return to Menzoberranzan, and take up the expedition that his matron mother would have for him. Marl outwardly resumed the mannerisms of the drow, and after fifty years of suspicion over his absence, he was finally – because of his time on the surface – given the post of leader of a diplomatic envoy, made up of him and a few of his siblings, to Isair and Madae, and the Legion of the Chimera. He then realised his true mission - while out of reach of the foul grasp of Lloth, he was to subtly convert his siblings into something fit for the surface world to accept. Due to his years on the surface, his skin has been sun-bleached, and now looks no different from a dark wild elf’s. Consequently, he is rarely even noticed as a drow. Selleth One of twins, a rarity in any elven society, Selleth was placed on this mission to control her brethren. As the highest ranking priestess in the household, to disobey her meant death. Marl knew that she would be the hardest to convert, but with the help of his god, Justaed, he managed it. Selleth has now turned to the moon goddess, Selune, and has found that her power, when applied to good, is tenfold what it used to be as a priestess of Lloth. She has even turned away from the chaotic instincts of the drow, a more thorough conversion than Marl himself! Jarith Insane and bloodthirsty. Two words that describe Jarith completely. The twin of Selleth, Jarith has been bestowed with an impossible amount of strength and constitution. None in the realms can match her for sheer brutality. As a dark elf, she was a minion of Lloth, but many doubted that she even knew who Lloth was. As such, Marl didn’t even try to convert her, just pointed her in the direction of the foe. Tigov When Tigov’s elder sisters Selleth and Jarith were born, Menzoberranzan was surprised. However, when Tigov and his twin brother Vasihas were born, all opposition to the obviously blessed house stopped, and the house gained hierarchal rank quickly. As such, Tigov and Vasihas have always been Matron Desdis’ favourites. Tigov had ever been at odds with drow society, but wisely kept his mouth shut. When Marl tried to convert him, Tigov – the smartest in the family behind the god-taught Marl – realised at once what was happening and conformed to Marl’s god without complaint. Modelling himself on the legendary ‘Evil’ Drizzt Do’Urden, Tigov wields his scimitars as his idol did, to create his own small piece of justice. Vasihas Always the more docile twin, Vasihas shows none of the customary traits of his race, and adores his brother Tigov. He took all of his matron mother’s pampering joyfully, until he realised that Tigov was refusing it. Tigov had already talked to Vasihas about abandoning the drow society, and when Marl discussed it with him, Tigov immediately came and told Vasihas the good news. Vasihas, trusting as always, immediately declared his loyalty to Justaed, and it was only by speaking to him VERY firmly that Tigov could get him to keep his mouth shut. Thus Justaed gained a loving, unquestioning follower, if not a bright one. Because of his nature, he is a likeable enough fellow, and those who know him are sure that he is proof that the drow and the surface elves were once all the same race. Beryin The sorcerers of Menzoberranzan have never had much time for Lloth – after all, their power’s come from within, so why bother praying for favour. When Marl came to him with his ideas, Beryin decided that they were a reflection – more or less – of his own feelings. He hides it well though, and while Marl will probably never be sure of it, there lurks a good, kind heart beneath his surly and sometimes cruel manner. I am really pleased with the role-playing aspect of this party – I even managed to justify minimizing intelligence and charisma, but if anyone would like to suggest improvements/changes to the stories, please do. From a role-playing point of view I'm wondering why these level 30 guys would answer a call for mercenaries and get on ship to Targos. They're better off summoning monsters to do that for them. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Very nice. you might consider looking at this.
Since then I have found out that you can add it directly by putting a different number for the party, just after the others.

Interesting and nice backstory. But why level 30 to start? There's no way to advance, even in HOF mode. Why not go with something mid-way, like level 15, so you'll get something for the fights. Or was this a party you don't plan on actually running through the game?

Start at level one in HoF. Get the book that summons Air Elementals from Ulbrecs wifes library... use the summons to kill Phean. Steal his robe off the ground sell it for 50000 gold. buy the goblin slaying dagger and coast/squat through the Prolouge. When your done you should be level 25 ish then you can beat the crap out of the game with a party that will still advance a little before the end of the game. Madrigal: They are on a ship from Luskan to Targos to help because they were going to get the goblins to escort them to Isair and Madae. But then they went 'good', and so they are now carving their way through the goblin ranks to get to Isair and Madae to kill them...
Nightowl: They are level thirty because they are drow. Realistically, the game (well IWD1 at least) has to make drow as easy as they are, otherwise it would be too hard. I think that all drow in real life (well the real life in books) are at least level 25... and these are exceptional drow. Jack: I probably will start at the beginning, with the altered stats (-7 beacause I will get them later) and with their current equipment

Well, it may be realistic where the books are concerned, but this is a game, and I wonder if you'll stick with being level 30 when you go through all the fights without gaining anything.

But Nightowl has a point about starting off at level 30. Here's something I did, also for (ahem) "role-playing purposes"... Installed Weimer's ease of use mod where you always get XP for a kill, then DOUBLED all the values. So I started off at level 1 and ended at around level 18-20. The game was still challenging because I still had to get my characters through the weak levels, the engine's intelligent enough to dish out more monsters against you if you're at higher levels, but the final battle did become a bit easier. Next time I might try TRIPLING the values, to see if I can reach level 30 by the time I reach the last chapter. [ 11-18-2002, 12:54 PM: Message edited by: Madrigal Five ] |

Actually, the average drow in novels and in the pen and paper game is level 2. There are maybe 50-100 or so level 25 characers in all of the Forgotten Realms.

Drizzt has corrupted too many minds. To be more realistic, when I play Drow I usually stick with CN or below.
