load your game first

then look for a saved gamed folder in the main IWD folder

if there is not one, then simply create a new character, start the game and do a quick save ... that will create the saved game folder

once that is done, simply copy the entire file folder for each saved game from your floppy into the main saved game folder ....

I am not at all familiar with WinXP but assuming it works mostly like Win98 ....

Do you have a windows explorer function? If so, open the directory where you installed IWD. Does it have a sub-folder/directory named savegames or something similiar?

If so, do the following:

Put the floppy in the drive.
Open ANOTHER Windows explorer window
From THAT window, select drive A: (that's the floppy drive)
Examine the contents of the disc in the drive and open the save game folder on the floppy
Right Click on the same game folder in the LEFT frame of the explorer window ... you should get a pop-up menu ... look for the COPY option - select copy

Now go the other explorer window (where the IWD saved game folder is)
Open the saved game directory (left click in the left frame)
NOW right click in the right hand frame and select the PASTE command. That should copy the entire saved game folder from the floppy into the saved game directory.

You can also you the "drag and drop" option to copy the contents of the floppy to the saved game directory.

IF you DO NOT have a saved game directory after the install, then simply start a new game so the program CREATES the saved game file for you and THEN do the steps above to complete the copy.

Like I said, this is the way you do it in Win98 ... I just don't know about the XP functions. Let me check with a friend .....

My friend with WIn XP says the routine for copying files or folders is identical to the way you do it in Win98 or WIn95. The "Drag and Drop" functionality is still there.

The destination folder for your IWD saved games will be something like this

D:\ProgramFiles\Black Isle\Icewind Dale\Saves or Savegames ....

where D is the device name for the Hard Drive where Icewind dale was installed

and

ProgramFiles\Black Isle\Icewind Dale is the main directory where IWD was installed

and

Saves or savegames is the folder where the saved games are copied to.

I'm sorry I can't be precise about this last folder, but I am at work and don't have access to my IWD file structure.

I hope this helps.
