Not sure why...
I usually get super excited but now I am just in an apathy mood.
Maybe I've grown up
I didn't goto the University Christmas dinner.
I did buy 40 Christmas Cards and only got 4 back

Anyway... does anyone else feel the lack of Xmas spirit?

Guess it depends on what you consider the 'Christmas' spirit'.

That neat feeling of giving gifts and seeing the looks on ppl's faces when they open them? The warm (or sometimes sinking) feeling you get when you open a present yourself?

The warmth of heart when you gather with friends or family and gorge yourselves on way too much food and eggnog? Or the dread you feel when you have to go to aunt (fill in the blank)'s house and must make nice-nice with not only her *awful* burnt turkey but her truly obnoxious children and smile at yet another green polka-dotted vest?

Perhaps you mean the harried rush from store to store to find just the right something, the pushing in line, the sinking realization that no way do you have enough money to buy what you really wanted to....

Personally, I try to carry the 'Christmas feeling' all year--enjoy family and friends as if each day were all there were. Why wait 'til one scheduled day of the year to give a small present, even if it's only a card to say "I'm thinking of you"? And for the religious aspect, why would you wait again for that one day to celebrate the existance of someone whom came to this plane to ease your way to 'salvation'?!

Yeah, I get grumpy and sad when I cannot possibly provide all the neat, nifty things I want to for my kids. I despise the long lines and rude folks who insist on mowing everyone else down to get to the shelves first. I think the bright shiny commercial (and some of the religious--sorry) trappings are plain silly.

But I bask in the warmth of stories of people helping each other out in small ways the news always seem to broadcast at only Christmas (when you know it happens year-round and yet not reported). I love seeing the kids' faces when they open a present they've wanted for *forever* and figured there was no way possible (and just how *did* mom and papa get it in the house with no one the wiser?!). I enjoy getting together with my sisters and nieces and nephew, watching them pig out on the pies and rolls I baked myself that morning for their pleasure.

Waiting for one specific day for all those truly wondrous feelings is usually anti-climatic and (I think) why so many become depressed at this time of year. Relax, be thankful for those around you and for the friends you haven't yet met but who are waiting to brighten your days. Forget those cards you don't have returned...they're not important. Give without expecting and you will receive more than you can ever imagine.

::nods:: but I can understand what you're saying, Avatar. With all the garbage happening this year....it's harder than ever. Cheer up--*I* still care!

Cheer up! It's Christmas no matter what your age

You may not feel Christmassy, but you look festive in your silver bells and Santa hat

It's okay not to be in the Christmassy mood Avatar. I certainly wasn't into it last year. There were just to much negativity around for me to enjoy it. I don't really feel like talking about that anyway, besides you probably don't want to hear it.

Anyhow, you shouldn't be worried that you're not in the mood just yet. You've still got days and days before Christmas actually
gets here. I hope you start to feel it eventually though. Nothing worse than being around a whole lot of Chrismassy people when you're not in the Christmassy mood.

Well, I'm trying to get in the mood, but with 75 degree temperatures here in Texas (20+ Celsius) and the humidity, it's really starting to tax me.

However, I plan to have a great holiday this year. You can choose to make of it what you will, but I'm not letting the world get me down.

Cheers,
