I have used Ironworks for several years. I never came to the forums because I watched what happened at teamBG. It wasn't worth the abuse
to ask a question. I came here finally when I was stumped on BG. It was amazing how fast my question was answered and the curtesy with which I was treated. Eventually I came into GD. It's a nice place and I enjoy it, even though I have only a few posts to my name.

The kudos go to Ziroc and all of the mods for running this place so well. If it weren't for their efforts this might well be like any of the other sites.

Seeing as how this is the only forum I've stayed at.......

I don't think many even realize they're 'newbie bashing' or 'ignoring'. Rather they just don't think about it and don't realize the newbie may be just as knowledgeable as themselves, simply new to that forum .

When I first got here, I lurked a lot. I was a little intimidated by the way that so many appeared to be lifelong friends in little cliches everywhere---and I was the outsider looking in the window wanting to come in out of the cold, too. But as soon as I started posting, I was warmly welcomed and can't recall anyone 'bashing' me for my green status. The more you post, the more people get to know you--and depending on the way in which you conduct yourself, you are either 'part of the family' or tolerated

(Now everyone just cringes when they see me post on a serious thread---"Oh no, Garnetis weighing in.....everybody run...")

I remember Smeagol Barry - I replied to a couple of his posts. I think he came across a certain banned three digit member in the 'Criminals' thread. In fact I think that was where he received his original one week ban.

Good thing IW isn't like some of the other places i've been to. At other forums it might take forever before my topic gets a reply. Sometimes it isn't even a helpful one. Example. "You should know that already stupid newbie." When I made a topic at the BG2 forum asking for help, I got help. I like that about this place. I like newbies too. All of us were new once you know?

I actually think IW i the newbie friendliest forum I've been to, I've never felt so welcome and able to join in on the fun on any forum I've been to... I have been to few and IW is the second I've become a "regular" (by which I mean posting more that 5 time... ).

And I usually read anything not based on postcount, it's what you say that matters... you could have 10000 posts and still be a jerk...

Thanks to all who said my brother was a nice guy (if you had ever had to share a house with him for most of your life you would probably say something different, but that is neither here nor there...). I will pass it on to him, but basically he is a very robust individual. He made some replies to posts both here and in the war forum which might have been borderline trolling, and I don't think he liked the replies he got. Like I say - it takes people a while to get used to the forum and what is allowed and what isn't. Sometimes that creates friction. Whatever happened to Lord_Gabriel? He posted some stuff in a forthright manner and got flamed a bit, now where did he go? It happens quite a lot I think, but because the people in question aren't here for long us regulars don't notice it as much.

I arrived (or started posting regularly) at around the same time as the infamous "Brits thread" which would have made me leave under normal circumstances. But when it happened I managed to settle my differences with Yorick via PM. It happens easily, for very natural reasons. It just takes everyone a little time to get used to each other. Anyway, that is just my thoughts on the matter.

Newbie bashing isn't, well, new. It's actually age old in reallife, unfortunately. New members to any group are expected to contribute seldom and only in a very respectful manner. It's discussed in the bylaws of medieval Eurpopean guilds, and in the instructions given by citywise nobility in 17th century Paris to their country cousins come to visit the capitol. Today, it occurs a great deal in online multiplayer games, especially smaller ones whose membership remains relatively stagnant. When everybody knows everybody, the newcomer stands out, and has to prove themselves--rightly, or wrongly.

Hmmm...actually I haven't seen any of those threads, never really visited the war forum. I based my opinion on his GD posts
