Well, I'm really into the AD&D novels and the PC games, and I'm a Christian, and I don't really see a problem with the game and the other stuff. As long as it's not taken too far, in my opinion. When somebody starts claiming they're the Demon Lord Puzbah or something though, in real life, I draw the line and help them into a little white straight-jacket.
Cool stuff though, D&D. Specially the Drow. Ohh yeah... |

Hm, well a few games have been proclaimed to be satanic hre in sweden but geerally few cares. DoD have had a bad rep since some guy in the US killed himself because his character got killed.
Personally I had harder time being a bit of an occultist fan to by Necronomicon and other suspect books about golden dawn and such crazies.. Well we had a debate at school about this when I was about twelve, most friends stopped play after that time, but I have always believed that things what you make them to and well, didn´t want to agree with my teacher back then (a pain in the ass already at tender age..) so well.. I continued. I met up with new friends instead and started to define my own rules based on one thing. Always try to be acceptant of all people you meet and never judge before you have experienced things. Have led to having some great yet unnormal persons as friends. Also, I started to seriously doubt organized religions.. ------------------ WOLF WINS EVERY FIGHT BUT ONE, AND IN THAT ONE, HE DIES |

Well I know Christians that play D&D and I have met a Christian that told me he burns D&D books.
In my opinion this is the problem. If a teenager goes and kills someone, people find it a lot easier to blame D&D (or computer games, movies ect) than look into the truth, which is a far more ugly. Although I have read some of the Christian anti AD&D stuff, (Any body read a comic called Dark Dungeons) most of it is based on Ignorance and the assumption that anything that takes our attention away from god is evil. |

I am a Christian who plays D&D. Out of those I know that play BG, most are Christians too. The only negative stuff I've heard about the game has originated in the States. Here's a thought.
MAYBE IT'S CULTURAL? I hate generalisations and I'm sick to death of having to defend my faith from the actions of those who claim to share my belief. So please, unless you want me - an Australian to start ranting about how most Americans seem to equate D&D with Satanism, stop generalising! ------------------ O.K..... what do I do now? I will not attempt to speak for anyone else. My attitude has always been to "live and let live." Religion and faith are very personal things and I would never, intentionally, denigrate anyone who believes and pratices their faith. Just as governments (see the China Crisis thread) can cause people to have bad feelings toward a country, so-called church leaders can cast a very bad light on a given religion. Here in the States, a lot of the negativity is caused by a few individuals who have become "powerful" through various forms of media. It is they, not necessarily members of their religion, who shape the opinions toward Christians. They preach intolerance and exclusiveness. Sad, really, for "Men of God." In this day and age, anyone who can maintain a strong faith in ANYTHING, will always have my respect, if not my agreement. "Religious" organizations on the other hand... ------------------ - for cut rate prices call 976-BRIS-FOR-LESS {Next time I send some damned fool, I'll go myself...} |
