Hi,
I notice that some of you long-timers (bsftcs in particular) do not play the patched version of the game. What is the reasoning behind this and is it better to not patch the game? Thanks,

It's completely personal preference, scaryogre. I don't play patched either
Check out Page 8 of the Best Tips thread, Bungleau's post at the top of the page. He explains everything gained & lost by patching. |

That's exactly what I was after...Thanks for the pointer.
Seems like the patch fixes some bugs (that if you know how to avoid aren't a huge deal) and the non-patched version allows more cheating.

The patch fixed one bug for me where I couldn't get out of Shurugeon Castle without crashing.

Welcome to the board, Scaryogre.
Apparently some people, like Bungleau, have experienced that the patch helps them with bugs that it should not mend officially. If you ever run into such a bug you can of course apply the patch at such a time. Until then I do not recommend using it. The only two things that it fixes and which cannot be circumvented in any other way are the "spirit shield" bug and the "vampire ring" bug. Both of which do not have any real consequence to the game. Welcome to the board, scaryogre!!!
I've never played this game "patched". It was mostly a case of, if it isn't broken, don't fix it. My game always ran nicely and I never had difficulties in the areas which caused others to try the patch. (I never went for the Vampire Ring so never had that crash). The best advice has really already been given. Just to echo it - play the game. If you're not having any problems that the patch solves, play on. Wyv |
