How come everyone who plays a warrior goes for the Kensai and not the standard Fighter who can actually *wear* armor? The Fighter kicked major arse in BG1. Why does he deserve the cold shoulder in BG2?

I almost always play atleast one "true" fighter... The lack of disadvantages balances out the lack of advantages in my book.

I don't think many people play straight kensai. Kensai are great to dual class though. If you are going to play a fighter though I don't see any reason why not to play a berserker.

The first time (and only time actually) that I completed BG2 I used a standard fighter, no kits. In reality it doesnt matter what class you use. There is always a way to get through any situation in the game no matter what class or party-makeup you have.

I think Luthor is right, whatever class you pick, it should be possible to create a party from all the NPC's that still kick major behind

I played with a pure fighter character. It was very funny specially the keep
I dont like any fighter kits. Berserker sounds a little bit dwarvish attitude and also you cant use your special abilities. And a bow is always a good thing to have. Despite its berserker ability, it makes me more happy to see there "Fighter" class. My general character is always a conjurer. I'll restart as a conjurer and will build a all woman party victoria, aerie, jaheira, imoen, mazzy haha ------------------ "Not for your eyes only, also for your beautiful ears.." Yngwie J. I've played BG2 with a true class Paladin and now with a true class Fighter. For some reason the kits don't seem to appeal to me, maybe its because my characters are continuing from their adventures in BG1 where kits didn't exist?
The standard fighter kit is pretty good, as it was in BG1, weapon specialisation upto grand mastery and no restriction on armor. My current female fighter is kicking some serious butt and she just recently took out Firkraag the red single-handedly (hit and run with lots of oils of speed and healing potions). I wonder if its just me, but I like to see the protagonist with more kills and experience than the others in my party... I actually reload the game if another member happens to make the killing blow on a high level monster. Seems that I've become attached to my characters, disturbing....... |

i have a straight fighter that i play sometimes, who is grand mastery in the warhammer, and specialized in sword and shield style. he also has a few slots in longsword too. he kicks some serious ass, especially against those damn golems that can only be hurt by blunt weapons.

The old and good standard fighter is always a welcome option. It's an easy class to play; just give him/her high scores in strenght, dexterity and constitution and you're ready to kick some butts. The fact they can wear any armor and wield any weapon and roll d10 for HP make the fighter one of the best classes for newbies.

Standard fighters are great, I often play one up until 10th level then dual class to a cleric.... that's my favorite way of getting the most potential out of the fighter/cleric classes. I'm not a fan of Kensai's either. You have terrible AC and get hit all the time.
