I've just beat the ruins and I want to steal the idol and then kill the doomsayer for the 5000 exp. he gives you. Unfortunatly that is easier said than done. He always kills my guy and I'm wondering if he has any special weaknesses? Because my lightening bolt did -3 damage. How do you do negative damage?!?! Anyway I have a ranger lv. 3, minsc lv 4, dynaheir lv 4, kivan lv 4, imoen lv 4, and branwen lv 4. Can you help?

The Doomsayer has greater than 100% Electric Resistance--meaning, lightning heals him. Fire, Ice, and Acid work just fine, though (I think.....dang, I just killed him today and forgot to test him for Acid.) So:

First off, swarm him with summons so he can't get to YOU
Magical effects can be Dispelled
He's immune to Normal Weapons and Electricity
He also apparently can't be hurt by missile fire (arrows, bullets, etc)
Sounds like this is a good time for all those Wands of Magic Missiles you've been selling.

Just a tip.

This is one of the fights where web is most effective. Move your magic users to just outside his line of sight so he hasn't appeared yet and fire off a few webs as far away as you can without revealing him. When he does appear odds are pretty good that he'll fail his save against at least one. You can then pound on him from a distance with magical spells and magical arrows. Also, I believe that a dispel magic will destroy his blade, making him far easier to deal with if he does manage to get in close...

Good way to get rid of Doomsayer is to blast some fireballs right in the beginning at him. Then summon monsters (lots of),they are not very much use,but he will concentrate on killing them instead of you.At the same time thrust some magic missiles at him (Edwin is a good idea at this point),and beat the hell out of him with your fighters. This worked with my party,no one got injured.

doomsayer is yet another great dumb npc, hope you got missile weapons equiped or nasty spells to chuck and get your fastest char to run around in circles with the dumb ol doomsayer following whilst the rest of your party chucks everything they got at him then move in for the kill when you got no ammo left

I've never had any luck with missile weapons, he takes 0 damage even from +2s. What works best is Dispel Magic. It makes his sword go away, so he only deals subdual damage. Bring in summons to provide him with more targets and hit with your magic melee weapons.

well my tactics were to stick some monsters in front of him whilst i hacked him up in melee including my wizard all getting hits in, but i had a harder party at that time

Where can I find a scroll for dispel magic. Also can dynaheir use it? ( she's an invoker, can't use summons or enchantment.)

Dispel Magic is Abjuration, so all the MAges in BG1 (and BG2, for that matter) can cast it if they know it. Clerics get it, too.

There are 2 scrolls of Dispel Magic in the southwestern part of the Sword Coast, but none in the map with the Doomsayer. If you have to cast it from a scroll instead of memorizing it, the Doomsayer would probably kick the crap out of you anyway.

(Dispelling him removes his Blur, making him easier to hit, but the best part is that it also destroys his Flame Blade, meaning he can only hit with his fist and therefore cannot kill you--he can only take you down to 1 hp and knock you Unconscious.)
