I took some time last night to update everything so I can get into EFU. I think I'm ready to make my character - so is EFU a low or high magic world? I'm not experienced with online play (just OC's), but have read that Monks rock in high magic worlds and suffer in low magic ones. I'll probably go Monk either way, but was wondering.

It is a very high magic world. it is possible to obtain +10 items with lots of enchantments on them.
Also expect some difficult battles ahead of you. With the High Magic there are extremly difficult monsters. Monks are good but they suffer from a lowish AB in EfU

I'm sure I'll do plenty of dying.
Do you think it's better to go unarmed (my preference) or dual kama's for the extra enchantments? |

You should be fine with both. There is a lot of XP to be found so you can level up pretty quickly. So you could createa kama monk and if your not liking it then start a fist monk. FYI you don't find the +8 kama until you get pretty deep in Undermountain. If you need any help please let me know. I pretty much know most of the place like the back of my hand Cheers!

Whilst on the topic of magics, during the few times i have been in EfU i have often seen other melee characters rather than sorcerors and the like.
Is there any point to become a sorceror if the monsters later on get so tough that no normal spells can harm them?

Mages are great fun to play, if very challenging. They really come into their own at deep levels when many melee characters suffer from an inadequate AB bonus to hit. Some magical support goes a long way (eg. the proving grounds).
Make sure you ultra-specialise in a damaging spell-school to punch through those resistances (eg. necromancy or evocation...) |

considering that i'm already experiencing a little lag, i think i'll try to minimise the amount of bright lights on my screen! I'll take magic as far as the powers of a cleric can go.

Clerics can rock on to really powerful melee/spellcasters.
They have some awsome buffs to make them better than a fighter and some really damaging spells.
