My brother had a real problem when he came on this forum and he left shortly after he got registered. You just learn what kind of a place this is after a while, it doesn't happen immediately and that can often cause tension.

Who was your brother, Barry? I don't remember any instance at all like that.

Of all the things we can be accused of, "ignoring newbies" certainly isn't it. Look at all of the welcome threads we have around here!

Cheers,

Certain people go and flame newbies, and you want to go and flame them? Just let them be, their board will die and IW will become the best by an even greater margin.

I wonder what would happen if I ot another handle and started posting like a newbie? Would i get ignored/abused? I dont think it would happen here but it might be an interesting experiment on some other boards.

Well I might even be a little guilty of this, but its not to do with the number of posts. Generally newbies dont have very interesting sigs so I dont look all that closely at first, but then I can be shallow like that. Eventually you get to know people but if everyone had some kind of interesting picture it would be a lot easier.

I remember my first ever post here on IW, it said something like: "just cos im new to this forum, doesn't mean im a newbie".

Basically, cos people usually tear newbie's up, disrespect them, and never listen to their opinions. But then I got flamed for thinkin that we had newbies here at the IW!!

Why? It's simple, SOME people think they are 'hot shit' just because they are 'regulars' or have tons of posts, and this seems to be the ONLY thing in their life they have, so they must strut around acting like they are cool and know -EVERYTHING- . In most cases, this is very wrong.

We don't have that here, all of our regulars and even NON-regulars are extremely nice to new users, and go the extra mile to help them. That is why I think we get so many new users--word spreads around that 'you can ask a question without feeling you're going to be attacked'.. Now I HAVE caught a few people since the forum was founded, but those people were either warned HARSHLY or banned. We just won't tolerate that sadistic attitude here.

So if any New users are reading this, JOIN in on discussions!! We'd love to hear from you!! The more the better!

Just had to say that..

Cheers,

Its not as bad as it sounds in my previous post, on reflection. He was called "Smeagol" and he only really posted in GD and the War forum until it was archived. He just got a bit caught up in what became of the Criminals thread and decided this place wasn't for him. I would try and persuade him otherwise but I live 60 miles away from him and I don't think it will work via e-mail somehow. I don't think he is that bothered to be honest, he is not really a forum person when you get right down to it.

What I meant about newbie ignoring was a much mroe general thing than not rolling out the red carpet when someone new comes in, which I agree we do quite admirably. What I meant was that people tend to look out for posts of people they know, and reply to those. Sometimes this can feel like you are being left out of the conversation when you are new, but it is just because people don't know you as well. That is what I think might happen anyway.

Hey Barry, I remember Smeagol well! Too bad he's given up on IW, I liked him!
