Another thought on global interconectedness. Supporting fair-trade in the long term will help boost the economies of the industrialized countries (the US in particular). As the third-world contries build stronger economies with better standards of living they are going to look for places to spend that new money. And they are very likely to spend that money on US products and services, as the US has the most powerful and persuasive media/advertising. As the old adage goes, a rising rivers floats all the boats.

it seems to me that it would be obvious that neither economical system can succede as a pure system. They both have weaknesses that they cannot protect against. the only system that will be truly succesful is a mixed economy where the capatalistic parts and socialistic parts are able to establish an equalibrium, a sort of check and balance system that keeps the other side from getting out of hand. Alot of people dont seem to realize that the American economy for example is not a true capatalist economy, we are actually a mixed economy. And a fairly successful mix too, it seems to me.
