I have problems with a consistent crash early in the game. within 10 seconds of leaving the village I get kicked back to Windows. My configuration is as follows:

P II 233 MMX
Aopen BX M/B
400Mb + Memory
32Mb Diamond Viper TnT2 Ultra
Creative Awe 64 ISA S/C
30G 7200 rpm HDD
32X CD Rom
Win 98 SE
DirectX 8
-No background programs inc antivirus and firewall, and no corruptions-

I've tried the following solutions:
Played with CD Rom Cache settings, high and low
Played with HDD cache settings, high and not low (don't be stupid)
Tried 3 v/C drivers, 2 from diamond(S3) and one NVidia reference (latest one)
tried many 3D settings within the game both high and lowest
tried reinstalling video compression (suggestion from here)
defragged HDD
Also installed old 4Mb Diamond Viper as last resort and tried 2 drivers (almost big system mistake heheh)
disabled soundcard
tried 256 colours
of course I tried the 1.0 patch (beta)
full install vs min install
various combos of the above

I don't think the problem is video but hey I could be wrong. I've seen alot of tweeks here and some have worked but not for me.

I'm at my wits end, you probably will be too after reading this long message.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS being a computer techo in a PC retail shop, I have fixed many peoples gaming problems.....ironies ironies ironies

Thanx
Graat

Welcome to the board, Graat!!!

Try reading through Saz' Techie Help Desk thread (2nd from the top). Off hand I think your problem is DirectX 8. You will find in Saz's thread instructions on how to remove DX 8 and load up DX 7 which seems to be far more stable.

Hope that will solve the problem or that you will figure out the solution by reading Saz' thread!

Keep us posted!!

I'd also suspect DirectX 8. You might also check to see if you're in hardware or software mode for the video; software mode seems to be less glitchy.
