You agreed to download Gator Corporation software when you did one of the following:

Downloaded one of the applications below from its Web site;

Opted to download one of the applications as part of a partner's software installation process;

Clicked on one of our ads offering free software;

Downloaded SitePass software in order to gain access to certain Web sites.
Click on any of the applications below to learn more.

Precision Time synchronizes your computer clock with one of the world's most precise time keeping devices.

Their website - http://www.gatorcorporation.com/pdp/splash-pdp.html
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had some new windows updates ready for download, d'l'd them but haven't yet rebooted.

Much, much later I'm told I've downloaded the above (I never got asked where to put it or anything). Do I want it? I saw a little spawny pop up thing at the bottom of my PC too that I had to R click to remove. I'm a bit paranoid nowadays with all the viruses etc about. This thing doesn't mention Windows update anywhere and being called Gator it sounds like it's gonna eat my PC.

Put my mind at rest please someone. Cheers.

NOOOOOOOOOO!

It is spyware! Tracks you on the 'Net for marketing data. Run AdAware.

Yes, I did know that. One day someone will manage to bring charges against gator corportation for deceptive practices, but I wouldnt hold my breath.

Its spyware, and the usual programs will take care of it. SpybotSD and Adaware both kill gator, spybotSD seems to do the better job of it.

http://security.kolla.de for spybotSD
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware for adaware

If you dont remove it your internet habits will be monitored, and there might be other invasions of privacy as well. Its a long way from the worst thing you can pick up, but best to remove it.

This is crap.

This thing somehow downloaded itself to my PC. Once it was finished it spawned pop ups and links to their site. I'm searching my PC for it and one of the files is called "UNWISE".

Also there is another part that says "To find out which (Gator) application(s) you have on your computer click here. "

I don't like this thing at all.....

I'm not too good PC wise. What's a step by step guide to completely remove all traces of this thing?

GOD I hate that Gator crap.. When I see that, it is $$$$$$ for the website owner if you hit yes. and they track data from your browsing.

Also, don't download the Animated Cursor thing.. Comet Cursor was what it was called I think.. Also spyware crap.

Someone needs to stop this crap. If I see those types of SCAMS that pop up on someone website, I never visit that site again.

Spybot or Ad-aware do a decent job of removing Gator and both have free versions available. Spybot seems to be a little better at updating their spyware patterns. Run it every couple of days to be sure.

I do belive that Gator lists a "how to" article on removing their crap on it's website. Check it out.

EDIT: And if you insist and installing free-ware, share-ware or file sharing programs on your PC, READ THE EULA FROM BEGINNING TO END.

Go to the first link I posted, download SpybotSD, install spybotSD, run spybotSD auto-update, run spyboySD scan, reboot computer.

After spybotSD runs again you should be clear of gator. You'll also be clear of any other malware that youve picked up.
