Character Explanation Post (Can't find old one)

Since a search engine doesn't appear to exist, I have decided to retry this message.

I noticed people seem to have characters they hate, and naturally, I always feel a need to explain why a character acts the way they act. So if you have a character you don't like, or just don't get, go ahead and ask.

That, or if you just want to know where to find a paricular NPC, then here's a list (Spoiler Free almost, except for the locations and how some are attained.):

Also, the Character Personality Section sums up what their personalities are like, and what

causes them to have their personality quirks. That section has spoilers, so don't read it if you

don't want to be spoiled. You don't have to read it if a disadvantage on an NPC says see

Character Personality Section, the personality would only be a disadvantage if you don't like a

certain type of personality or can't understand it.

Aerie (Found at: Circus Tent in Waukeen's Promenade)

Advantages: Aerie has clerical and magical abilities, as well as being proficient in

Maces, Slings, Clubs, and Quarter Staffs. She also has an intellegence of 16.

Disadvantages: Aerie has low hit points and low strength (About 10 strength, she can't

hold too many medium shields). Also see Character Personality Section.

Anomen (Found at: Copper Coronet Inn in the Slums)

Advantages: Anomen has his clerical abilities and his fighting abilities. He's a

fighter/cleric who dualed over at level 7, making him a pretty good fighter who will get better

because the Cleric is sort of a fighting class. He's also got some very high strength, a great

Turn Undead as he gains in levels. He's got some equipment already equipped (A Family Sheild). He

has proficiencies in the War Hammer, Mace, Sling, and Sword and Shield Style.

Disadvantages: See Character Personality Section.

Cernd (Found at: In the Mayor's Basement of Trademeet, at the Druid Grove near Trademeet)

Advantages: Cernd can shapeshift into a werewolf and do massive amounts of damage. He also

comes with his own equipment. He's a druid, which means he gets clerical powers. He also has

weapon proficiencies in the Scimitar, Dagger, Quarter Staff, and Sling.

Disadvantages: He has low dexterity. Cernd also can't wear armor because of his

Shape-Shifting abilities. Also see Character Personality Section.

Edwin (Found at: In Maevar's Guildhouse in the Docks, Copper Coronet if you replace him

with someone)

Advantages: He's a bloody good spellcaster is what Mae'var has said, and that holds true.

Edwin specializes in Conjuring magicks. He also has a high intellegence of 18. Weapon

proficiencies in Quarter Staff and Dagger.

Disadvantages Well, frankly he's as weak as Aerie is when it comes to strength, and he

can't scribe Divination spells to his spellbook, leaving him without the handy Identify ability.

He's also got low Dexterity. Also see Character Personality Section.

Haer'Dalis (Found at: In Mekrath's Lair, in the Sewers, in the Temple District)

Advantages: Haer'Dalis is a Blade, a form of a Bard that is deadly with Swords. Anyway, he

has the awesome Offensive Spin ability which allows him to cast haste and blur at the same time,

and causes more damage. Defensive Spin doesn't allow him to get damaged. He comes with his own

equipment as well. He's an adequate spellcaster too. His weapon proficiencies are the Short

Sword, Dagger, Dart, and Two Weapon Style.

Disadvantages: Unfortunately, the Blade's get shafted, their Bard Song doesn't increase.

Also, Defensive Spin doesn't allow the Blade to move or fight. Also see Character Personality

Section.

Imoen (Found at: Duh! Right at the start of the game! Also the Copper Coronet much later)

Advantages: Imoen is a Thief/Mage. She has the ability to hide in shadows and cast spells.

She's also a pretty darn good thief, having dualed over at level 7. Anything she can't do can be

solved with a few Potions of Master Thievery. She's got high Dexterity at 18 and Intellegence at

17. She has proficiencies in the Dagger, Quarter Staff, Short Bow, and Dart.

Disadvantages: She's not too strong, she's weaker than Aerie is. Also see Character

Personality Section.

Jaheira (Found at: At the start of the game, in a cage near your's, also at the Harper's

Headquarters in the Docks if you replace her with someone)

Advantages: Jaheira is a Fighter/Druid, a good combination of classes. She's also got

weapon proficiencies in the Scimitar, Quarter Staff, Club, Sling, and Sword and Shield Style. She

can turn into a wolf, bear, or brown bear.

Disadvantages: Virtually no disadvantages, but see Character Personality Section.

Jan (Found at: In the Government District near the Fountain, at his house in the Slums)

Advantages: Jan is an Illusionist/Thief who comes with his own equipment. An Illusionist

is a Mage basically. He's got pretty high Dexterity at 17 and pretty high intellegence at 16. His

proficiencies are in Short Sword, Dagger, Quarter Staff, and Crossbow.

Disadvantages: Low strength, and due to his Illusionist status, he can't learn Necromancy,

Invocation, Evocation, and Abjuration spells. Also see Character Personality Section.

Keldorn (Found at: In the Sewers of the Temple District right after you accept the

Unseeing Eye Quest, if you replace him before his Specil Quest, at the Most Noble Order of the

Radiant Heart Building in the Temple District)

Advantages: Keldorn is an Inquisitor, a form of a Paladin. An Inquisitor is like a Wizard

Slayer. (Don't know much about Inquisitors, so I may be being to broad there.) He also comes with

his own equipment. His proficiencies are in Bastard Sword, Two-Handed Sword, Crossbow, and

Longsword.

Disadvantages: Keldorn has some very low Dexterity, at 9. Also see Character Personality

Section.

Korgan (Found at: In the Copper Coronet in the Slums)

Advantages: Korgan is a Berserker, enough said. He also has proficiencies in the War

Hammer and Axe.

Disadvantages: Korgan has low wisdom and charisma. He has a charisma of 7, and a wisdom of

9. Also see Character Personality Section.

Mazzy (Found at: In the Shade Lord's Dungeon in the Temple Ruins near the Umar Hills, also

at her home in Trademeet after you visit her in the Shade Lord's Place)

Advantages: Mazzy is a fighter with Paladin-Like abilities. She's a Halfling, and since

BG2 runs on 3rd Edition rules, she can't be a Paladin. She's a pretty good fighter too. She has

proficiencies in the Short Sword and Short Bow. She also comes with her own Equipment.

Disadvantages: Virtually none, except she can't weild Paladin-Only weapons. Also see

Character Personality Section.

Minsc (Found at: Same as Jaheira, but in the Copper Coronet if replaced or dropped)

Advantages: Minsc is a Ranger with the Berserker abilities. He had proficiencies in the

Two-Handed Sword, Mace, Long Bow, and Two-Weapon Style.

Disadvantages: Minsc has low intellegence (8), Wisdom(6), and Charisma(9) due to too many

hits to the nogin. Also see Character Personality Section.

Nalia (Found at: The Copper Coronet, or any place you drop her off at)

Advantages: Nalia is a Mage/Thief. She's got 18 Dexterity and 17 Intellegence. She's got

proficiencies in Short Sword, Dagger, Quarter Staff, and Short Bow.

Disadvantages: Nalia has low Wisdom (9). She also dualed over at Level 4, making her a

pretty weak thief. Also see Character Personality Section.

Valygar (Found at: His Cabin in the Umar Hills)

Advantages: Valygar is a Stalker, a form of a Ranger that specializes in, you guessed it,

Stalking. (How lame did that sound?) Anyway, he comes with his own Equipment. He has pretty high

strength. He also has proficiencies in the Katana, Dagger, Spear, Long Bow, and Two-Weapon Style.

Disadvantages: Virtually no disadvantages. See the Character Personality Section.

Viconia (Found at: She starts off in the Government District, then at the Graveyard, then

anywhere you end up dropping her off)

Advantages: Viconia is a Cleric whose proficiencies are in the War Hammer, Mace, and

Sling.

Disadvantages: Viconia has the almost exact same stats as Aerie, especially with Strength.

Yoshimo (Found at: The second level of Irenicus's Dungeon, also at the Copper Coronet)

Advantages: Yoshimo is a bounty hunter. He has Set Special Snare, a great ability for

setting traps from a distance. He also comes with his own Equipment. He has proficiencies in

Katana, Dagger, Short Bow, and Single Weapon Style.

Disadvantages: Virtually none, except for one thing that would spoil most of the game that

I won't get into. Also see Character Personality Section.

Edit: Kaneida spotted a mistake in Viconia's description, so I fixed it. Viconia didn't start out in the Temple District, it was the Government District.
