Just been watching the news and apparently, a U.S. Marines chopper has crashed on the border of Kuwait and Iraq. It is said that it was a mechanical failure, but who knows. there were 16 men, 12 U.S. troops and 4 British troops. This has been the first Casulaties for the U.S.

I think they are all the only casualties thus far for either the Brits or us.

Let us hope for a swift end to this conflict, before there are many more.

You have it backwards from what I just heard on TV like a dozen times tonght. I heard 12 British Soldiers went down in a U.S. marine chopper manned by 4 Americans (the crew). I would also beg you to change the title to include the casualties of the British as well as the Americans.
Edit to include reference: Quote:

Latest reports confirm that there were 8 British casualties rather than the 12 initially stated. Slightly better news, but still a terrible incident .

Of all the ways to die during a war it's due to equipment failure, I can't imagine those men would of believed you if you had told them what was going to put an end to their lives beforehand the unstoppable are stopped by a chopper with mechanical hiccups grrr, if men must die in war then they should die in battle. My condolences to their families and friends.

It has been confirmed. A USMC CH 46 has crashed with no survivors in the sands of that god forsaken desert.
This was a joint operation, involving Marines from a MEU (Marine Expediontary Unit) (SPEC-OPS) and a British Commando Task Force. Very sadly these were SPEC-OPs folks, the kind that look death and danger in the face every day. For a death like this is a tragic one, they did not die in battle, as all of them would have wanted it. Their creed is long and honorable, and their duty never goes unfinished. To the families of the British Commandos. "Death Before Dishonor" To the families of the Marines. "Semper Fidelis" Felix

The sad truth is that only a small number of casualties are directly from combat. An army just sitting in the field has a risk of casualties. Of course, combat greatly increases those chances .....
EDIT ... Well said Felix ..... [ 03-21-2003, 09:09 AM: Message edited by: Night Stalker ]
