Is there a way to send phone txt mssgs online?

I vaguely recall yahoo doing this, and then there was some other site that did it at one point, but with the way texts have taken off now i'm not sure if this feature is still around. I'd like to be able to send someone a text from my PC - just a txt, and for free. Say it is still so, anyone?

Most phone IMs have an email equivalent. If you send a message to my phone @sprintpcs.com, it gets converted to SMS and sent to me.

Have you tried that?

Skype can do it. For a fee of course. You can even set it up so that it looks as though the message came from your phone.

Not yet, but I assumed it was a feature, as in accessing email and thus, connection to the web via your phone and carging the user under "internet usage".

For the recipient, it should just be another IM. For the sender, it should just be another email. Check your phone provider contract for exact details. Your mileage may vary. Not suitable for women, children, small animals, shrubs, and some house plants.

I know this works on Verizon, Sprint, AT&T/Cingular. go to the official phone provider website of the person you wanna text, and there is a link to send a text/SMS message, should b no cost, on site. there should also be an 800 number you can call to get the provider's help line to talk to someone to do it - you will get a sales pitch, but b polite and they will help u set up to text to any person they have as a customer. curious to see how it works for u...let us know!
