I can say truthfully that any game with the 'Wing Commander' liscence is well worth your time. That goes for Privateer too!

Mechwarrior 2 is also great, if a little primitive (it was released in 1995 if I recall correctly). Graphics are somewhat dated, but still a fine Mech-stomp simulator. Think 'Tie Fighter' in a 50-foot robot.

I haven't played all these games, but go for Railroad Tycoon II, Cerek. Hours and hours of play - and it doesn't go out of fashion.

I learned the geography of Australia with that game ! Tough country to build a railroad on.

The only one I can help with is Wing Commander: Privateer. That game absolutely rocked! But it rocked 10 years ago, so I'm not sure how much he'll like it.

I agree with both Masklinn and Moiraine -

Railroad Tycoon II is the best game out of that bunch. Absolutely endless hours of play and fun too. I give it a 10.

Sim City is also excellent, but the others weren't so good.

After RPGs, Management/Strategy games are my favourite!

NP means I never played it...

01) Quake = 3 (never liked it much, just nice graphics (for the time it came out, but hardly any gameplay or story))
02) Quake II 8 (Big improvement... it had a story!)
03) Quake III Arena = 6 (Only played it in singleplayer and it was a lot like #1 just prettier graphix)
04) Thief II 9
05) 5 "Sim" Titles, i.e., City, Copter, Safari, Isle, and Tower 6 (on average)
06) Deus Ex 10 (just too great for words)
07) MDK 2 Np
08) Unreal Tournament Np
09) Soldier of Fortune: Gold Edition 7.5 (very good... a little disturbing if you play it with all the violence options)
10) Star Trek: Birth of the Federation NP
11) Asteroids 3D np
12) Wing Commander: Privateer 8 (so old... and so good... )
13) Railroad Tycoon II 8 (very good)
14) Redneck Rampage Rides Again! (Arkansas) (I only played #1 and it was funny but not so good)
NP for the rest...

I didn't like Spec ops 2 much because there isn't a save game button (at leats i didn't found one) but once i started playing it i couldn't stop. big levels, quite hard but it's fun if you like to crawl trough everything and sort of sniper everything because therwise you have to strat again. ai is quite good , enemies will search you if you open fire upon them but could also shoot grenades on you or where they think you are.

Please rate any of the games you are familiar with from 1-10 (with 10 being GREAT and 1 being "throw away ASAP").

Any comments you have of why the game rocks (or sucks) would also be helpful. Thanks for your help.

The games he has are:

01) Quake
02) Quake II
03) Quake III Arena
04) Thief II
05) 5 "Sim" Titles, i.e., City, Copter, Safari, Isle, and Tower
06) Deus Ex
07) MDK 2
08) Unreal Tournament
09) Soldier of Fortune: Gold Edition
10) Star Trek: Birth of the Federation
11) Asteroids 3D
12) Wing Commander: Privateer
13) Railroad Tycoon II
14) Redneck Rampage Rides Again! (Arkansas)
15) Mech Warrior 2
16) Spec Ops: Platinum Collection. It includes:
16a) Spec Ops: Rangers Lead the Way
16b) Spec Ops: Ranger Team Brave, expansion pack
16c) Spec Ops II: Green Berets
16d) Spec Ops: Operation Bravo, expansion pack
1) 2) 3) haven't played them much but enough to say they are good if you like 3d shooters so I'd say 7 or 8/10

4)very good if you have patience 8/10
5) can be fun for a while but get very repetitive and have no overall goal 5/10
6) Deus Ex - VERY good game mixing RPG, 3D shooter and adventure 9/10 great music
7)MDK 2 - haven't played it but based on what I've heard - 8/10
8) Unreal Tournament - very good mulitplayer game - addictive! 9/10
9) Dunno, never played it
10) no idea
11) Fun little game 6/10
12) dunno
13) If it's anything like Transport Tycoon deluxe then it's very good 8/10
14) dunno
15) dunno but supposed to be pretty good 7-8/10 based on what I've heard
16) supposed to be pretty good based on magazine review 7-8/10

Nothing can match Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
Where Railroad Tycoon gets a 10/10, Transport Tycoon Deluxe gets a 11/10

The best thing is that some fans made a patch that improves the game and allows you to play it under Windows 98/2000/XP.
You can also find it quite easily over the net; not very legal I admit it, but the game is not sold anymore.
