Are there any character classes that are totally useless? Been reading through the manual here at work and trying to figure out who I want to build my party

Totally useless??? No. Everybody has their preferences, however, and can give you reasonable arguments as to why their favorite class outshines all others.

I like the fact there is no perfect party in IWD2. One thing I have noticed between IWD2 and IWD1 is that in this one, the enemy is a little more cunning. They seem to be better equiped in this one than in the first one. In my current IWD2 game, I'm in Chapter 2 and some of the guys have some painful weapons that they are using against me. Luckily, my guys and gals are armed to the teeth and ready for them. As far as advice on creating your characters, don't worry if you feel the need to start over shortly after starting. I took me quite a while to get my party together. I believe for the most part that any party can be used to complete the game. I like small parties and it was hard for me to come w/ my ideal party of four. I think I restarted like around 5 times before I finally said, "I'm going to stick with these guys." I wanted to try some new things, so I went w/ a Sorceror and Monk and then used some old faves of mine; Rogue & Cleric. With the new multiclassing rules, it opens up a whole new area of character progression. My party is setup like this:
Rogue X/Fighter 4 Rogue 3/Monk X Cleric (Talos) X/Fighter 4 Sorceror X/Fighter 4 Good luck to you and the people here are very helpful w/ party suggestions.
