New to NWN, questions.

OK, i just got the game a few days ago, and i love it! the thing is, i dont have everything figured out yet. what exactly does the skill heal do? i have some skills i cant find to put on my quick bar, and i cant find some feats too! i am a ranger, and only about lvl 3 (just started lol), but my feats are the favored enemy, the weapon profecieny one, and toughness. I know the only one i should be able to find it toughness, considering the other two feats are "passive" and allways in effect, but i cant even find that one! can anyone help me? o ya, and what lvl do i start getting ranger spells? thanks.

It modifies your "Healing Kit" performance vis-a-vis the DC of the poison or disease. For example, a powerful disease might have a DC of 30. If you had a 10 in heal and a +6 kit, you'd add 16 (10 + 6) to your "heal" roll, which means you'd be successful on a 14 or better. This would mean you healed between 30 and 36 HP, plus cured the disease.

A high score in this skill is important in combat against creatures that can disease or poison you, such as mummies or dire spiders. Antidotes and cure disease potions & scrolls are great, but expensive and narrowly focused. A successful use of a heal kit will give you hit points AND cure you.

Toughness is also a passive feat.

To review your feats, open your character sheet (press C). There are several tabs at the top. The second tab lists all your skills. The third tab lists your feats.

thanks guys! i also got some skills i cant find, like search and stuff. i know its used to find traps, but i cant it either?

When your character is just walking around, then you are considered in passive search mode (except for elves, who are considered in active search mode all of the time, with no movement penalty). People in passive search mode move at normal speed, but get only half of their modifier to search roll.

There should be an option (right-click your character, then select the action from the "other actions" area) to enter Search Mode. In this mode, you only move half speed, but get your full search modifier. You can also right-click on a quickbar slot, and it will pull up the same menu as right-clicking on your character. Choose Search Mode, and it will set it as a button on the quickbar.

I have not seen anyone mention the advantage elves have in this area before. I think it is a huge advantage not to have to go into search mode to get full search.

That's a nice bonus, Nerull, but I'm not sure it outweighs -2 constitution. If they'd made it -2 strength, I'd probably be playing a few more elves.
