I've just got back from completing the Tour de Mont Blanc in 11 days. Was just wondering if anyone else has done it and what they thought or whether anyone else is thinking of doing it. It was brilliant but exhausting at the same time....details on request... and photos coming as soon as I develop and scan them.
Nice to "be back" BTW, haven't been around here for a while

Yeah, at first it was damn hard. First day involved an ascension of over 1500m and I had over 20kg on my back which is a lot when trudging up a mountain in 30 degrees celsius. However, by the end of the tour I could hardly feel the pack on my back.

Sounds extremely exhausting indeed, but at least it's something to look back on with a smile of satisfaction on your smile... It sounds like quite an adventure.
I'm not really familiar with the concept of the Tour de Mont Blanc, but I take it we're talking about walking-tour up and down the mountain, while resting at nights in tents?

Well it's a 120 mile tour around Mont Blanc. Highest point was 2900m. We circumnavigated the area of Mont Blanc in 11 days staying at mountain refuges and sometimes in tents. The tour goes through France, Italy and Switzerland, it's supposed to be the most popular hiker's route in Europe! It was bloody exhausting but definitely worth it for the views and experience and satisfaction.
Just on the first day we had to climb 1500m in about 30 degrees heat with heavy backpacks :-\

Check out this link: http://www.southwest100.freeserve.co....mainpage.html

that's what we did.

Nah, I think your thread just had a little too many words and too much content for the current Ironworks regulars.
But I'm impressed myself... I haven't been on any vacation in years, but that sounds like a major experience. But erm, 20 kg, 1500 meters and 30 degrees outside... I take it you lost some serious weight as well?
Well yeah I lost nearly 4kg (8lbs) which shows on me cos I wasn't fat to start with.
Although I would've lost more if it wasn't for the food at some of the mountain refuges. Can you believe it? In one mountain refuge, which we had to climb 600m to get to, they gave us a 5 course meal for Ł12. At these refuges, there is no menu, just a set meal they give you and you pay a set price for dinner. That was the first 5 course meal I'd had in my life! Don't think that we ate like that every night though, most nights it was soup powder + hot water = cuppa soup and some bread
