How can anyone play thru bg2 as any thing but a mage single/multi/dual or sorcerer?
the magic is the funnest part of the game i think. but ill start a new game with a kensai, or monk, never a straight fighter.... and ill get to about when imoen leaves and start a new game as a magic user. i cant help it; its just not fun to me without the magic. is there anyone out there that has this same affliction, or is it just me? |

Yeah, me, the only other thing except Sorcerer that I play is the Lich kit I downloaded from the web.

I played a mage in BG1, ToSC, IWD, and now How. I love mages, but wanted something different in BG2 and am playing a monk, which I love. Of course, you can have magic users in your party. I like magic, too, but I don't necessarily have to be the one using it. As you know, it can be pretty rough going in the lower levels for magic users. Tough in the lower levels for monks, too. It seems that alot of the classes that are harder at lower levels become really awesome if you can survive.

A powerful fighter is much more personal when he kills his enemies. He doesnt stand back and recite spells, he's in the action fighting toe to toe.

where as a mage plans his attacks, whether it be an attack spell, defensive spell, degenerative spell or whatever. my mage kills many more enemys than my fighters, fire arrow here, dissentigrate there, throw in a timestop, wail of the banshee, death spell, gate etc. and stirr together and my mage is a team unto himself |

I just played a bit more with the Lich and here is some more info:
For a weapon it can use mage weapons or his Spectral Touch which increases in power with his level, he can also summon skeletons as an ability, his spellcasting is a bit like a Sorcerer because even though he memorizes spells he also uses "points" on them, when he has either not spell or no points left he can cast no magic, he is a bit slow though, I would rather play the Desolator, a ranger kit which can summon magical scimitars and shapeshift into Hakeashars and Nishruus. |
