Collectively speaking, what an interesting signature - can I drill you about that?

First off: Xen, there is no such thing as "persuading" Ziroc into letting you get back. You weren't there when I was banned, so you wouldn't know the exact details about it all.

I never ever confronted Ziroc himself with what happened after I was banned. Of course I wasn't happy with it; after all this was my online home, I had lots of friends here, and now I just lost it. I spent my time on another board (the HADB board that died out some time ago), and there were plenty of other members around there, including Memnoch and Sazerac (and more).
It was mostly via them that I got reinstated, not due to myself sending emails around to everyone. Memnoch was wise enough to ensure me NOT to mingle in this particular case, and told me he would solve it for me, and so he did.

There were "incidents" of course, the most notable being Hiram_Sedai (miss you man!) starting a topic in GD telling Ziroc that he was willing to give his OWN membership to me, if that would bring me back. Needless to say there was A LOT of commotion because of this, and Memnoch was very afraid that this would backfire and destroy the credit he had built up with Ziroc along with other members.

Luckily for me, it didn't and I got my membership back after a ban of approximately 4 months (or something close). I still owe Ziroc for not banning me again, after a friend of mine was trolling Ironworks (you wouldn't know how mad I was at him) and not telling the mods who he really was. Suffice to say I am glad I'm still here, and that I have lots of friends around here.

I second that! Mods here really do participate in discussions and there is no newbie bashing here like on other fourms! And Mods usually have a really big bone of tolerance here wich is excellent!

It definately seems to require a thorough probing.

I'd just like to add to this...Link is a shining example of our Ironworks culture - he did the wrong thing once, in a flash of temper. Happens to all of us. But he was mature enough, and big enough, to admit that he did the wrong thing and apologise, and of course he was eventually welcomed back - on a probation period initially, but I knew he would pass that with flying colours - and he did.

One of main reasons people get banned is pride - an inability to accept that they did the wrong thing. To his credit, Link didn't display that - he eventually accepted he did the wrong thing (took some persuading, but he listened! ), and made a commitment to do the right thing in the future. That to me was more important than any apology. The past is the past, you can't change it - what is important is how you learn from it and how it affects your behaviour in the future. I had faith in him, and knew he only had to have faith in himself. He's a credit to this place and we're richer for his being here.

For those of you who follow European football, I prefer to think of him as formerly a young and immature Ruud Gullit, prone to brain explosions and two-footed challenges, and abuse of the referee at times - to a more mature, highly-respected, senior member of the team.

One thing people need to understand is that we as moderators HATE banning people. I hate banning people. I don't even like telling people off. We want this to be a place where we can all talk to each other, and compliment each other, and criticise each other, and provide friendly warnings to each other, all in the spirit of camaraderie and friendship. If I warn someone about something, in a friendly way (or not-so-friendly way sometimes), it's because I DON'T want you to get in trouble or banned or whatever. We try to give people every opportunity before we hit the Eject button. If you choose not to heed the warnings, then you dig your own grave. But we always hope that it doesn't come to that.

Trolls are another thing - if you come here specifically to be an idiot, post porn or crap like that, and piss people off, then we're more than happy to throw you out with the garbage, no questions asked.

Well said Memnoch
To give a (sad) real-life example:
As some of you may know I finance my studies by teaching at a tutoring institute.
Recently I had a student who had been known as a troublemaker with other teachers. I went easy on him first, and he actually did behave. Last week however, he got into a quarrel with another student and I was not able to stop him by ANY means. With absolutely no respect for me (as a person) or the authority I represent (as a teacher) he kept on throwing things around and would not behave. Of course I got more strict, threatened him to throw him out to cool off and eventually even shouted at him (and believe me I have a LOUD voice.
I did this not because I was upset (I have rather thick skin ) but because I knew that my boss would throw him out of school (the institute) if he misbehaved yet again.
Sadly he didn't listen at all and kept on fooling around until my boss came in and solved the matter once and for all. She called his mother and told her that "we can no longer keep tutoring him, as his misbehaviour is bad image for our institution".
In a matter of minutes his mother was there to pick him up and I had lost a student.
Yes, LOST. Of course he was a troublemaker, but there was nothing I wanted more than for him to overcome that and improve his skills at school based on a more balanced personality.

Why am I telling you this? (mainly because I need to get it off my chest )
Because I think I understand the position the Mods are in. They don't want to ban or suspend anybody.
If a mod gives out a warning he/she wants to give you a hint to avoid escalation. It is never meant to be insulting your pride, it's just a heads up. Just like a nice officer who leans over to you at a crossing and tells you to fasten your seat belt (is this law in the US? here it is). He will only fine you if you ignore his warning.

Don't you mean Patrick Kluivert Memnoch ? Ruud Gullit was actually quite a pleasant bloke when he was still young, he started to get immature when he reached the superstar status.
